Description

Embark on an extraordinary full-day tour of West Iceland with a private guide in a super jeep. Explore the awe-inspiring beauty of the Langjokull’s ice tunnel and visit some of the terrific natural attractions along the way.

The tour starts with pick-up in Reykjavik. As this is a private tour, you don't need to worry about other guests, and as you are in a super jeep, the journey will be adventurous and personal. Your driver will take you out of the city, continue through Thingvellir National Park, and pass Sandkluftavatn lake until reaching Husafell village for a quick stop.

Located between mountains and glaciers, many travelers regard Husafell as one of Iceland’s hidden gems for its beauty and wonder.

The next stop is Langjokull glacier, where you’ll find the largest of only four man-made ice tunnels in the world. This is your unique opportunity to step back in time and experience the Ice Age firsthand, walking under and within a moving glacier.

The tour guide will share fascinating insights about the glacier as you explore. The ice tunnel is 1,640 feet (500 meters) long with separate frozen halls, offering ample space for you to immerse yourself in this extraordinary environment.

After Langjokull Glacier, the tour then proceeds to Borgarfjordur fjord, where you'll find the Hraunfossar waterfalls.

This majestic place is a series of cascading waterways formed by hundreds of streams flowing out from the Hallmundarhraun lava field to the Hvita River. After checking out Hraunfossar, you’ll continue upstream to visit the nearby Barnafoss, another mesmerizing waterfall.

From Barnafoss, there’s a quick stop at Reykholt. This small town is an important historical site, as it was home to Iceland's most important writer, Snorri Sturluson. Here, you will find Snorralaug, a hot spring regarded as one of the oldest man-made structures in Iceland (if not the oldest). Snorri Sturluson used the hot spring himself, adding a historical touch to your visit.

The tour then makes a visit to Deildartunguhver, Europe’s most powerful geothermal spring. The hot spring’s temperature can increase as high as 97°C (207°F). Because of its heat, several towns, including Akranes and Borgarnes, use the springwater for central heating. Aside from being the central heating source, Deildartunguhver is also home to a rare type of fern that no one can find elsewhere in Iceland.

Before concluding the tour by arriving in Reykjavik in the late afternoon, there’ll be a quick stop at Hvalfjordur. Although its name means “Whale Fjord”, it’s not known for whale watching. Instead, it’s a perfect place to spot wild birds and seals on the beach.

Don't miss your chance to visit and experience Langjokull’s wondrous man-made ice tunnel and other sites in West Iceland. Check the availability of the tour by choosing a date.
