Day 1

Day 1 - The Snaefellsnes Peninsula and Northern Lights

Your adventure begins with a convenient pick-up from your chosen location in Reykjavik. After the whole group is on board, you'll set off in a comfortable minibus toward the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. Known as "Iceland in Miniature," the region showcases the country's diverse landscapes in one area.

The day's first stop is the fishing village of Arnarstapi. Here, you can admire the stunning Gatklettur Arch, a naturally eroded rock formation that stands as a striking landmark along the coastline. The village also offers glimpses of traditional Icelandic life through its historic houses.

Next, you'll head to Snaefellsjokull National Park, home to the Snaefellsjokull Glacier Volcano. The park also features Vatnshellir Cave, an 8,000-year-old lava tube that inspired Jules Verne’s “Journey to the Center of the Earth.”

You can join an optional guided cave tour for an additional cost. This tour takes you into the Vatnshellir Cave, which is 115 feet (35 meters) below the surface. If you choose not to enter, your guide will provide details on where to find other scenic spots in the national park.

After a quick lunch stop at the nearby Hellnar Village, you'll go to Djupalonssandur Beach. This black sand beach is known for the remains of a 1948 shipwreck scattered along the shore and ancient lifting stones that fishermen used to test their strength before heading out to sea.

Your final stop of the day is Kirkjufell Mountain, known to be Iceland’s most photographed peak. Its name translates to "church mountain," a reference to its distinctive, spire-like shape. This unique landmark stands out in the landscape, making it a must-see on the Snaefellsnes Peninsula.

As night falls, your guide will check the forecast for a chance to see the northern lights. If conditions align, you may witness the sky glowing with waves of shifting colors, a breathtaking sight in Iceland.

You’ll end the first day of your 2-day Snaefellsnes Peninsula tour with a relaxing overnight stay at a country hotel in Borgarnes. The accommodation offers a private bathroom to ensure comfort and a breakfast to fuel up for the next day.

Day 2

Day 2 - West Iceland

After a restful night, you’ll start the day with breakfast at your hotel. Once you’re ready, the journey continues through West Iceland's breathtaking landscapes.

The first stop is Deildartunguhver Hot Spring, a powerful hot spring in the Borgarfjordur Fjord. The water here is used for central heating in nearby towns, and it’s thought to be the most powerful hot spring in Europe.

You can soak in the Krauma Geothermal Baths for an additional fee. The pools are naturally heated by the hot spring, offering an ideal retreat to unwind in warm, mineral-rich water.

Next, you’ll visit the small Reykholt Village. It was once home to Snorri Sturluson, a medieval writer and historian known for his role in Iceland’s civil war and for preserving Norse mythology through his literary works.

Your journey continues to two unique waterfalls in the region, Hraunfossar and Barnafoss Waterfalls, located near each other. These falls offer contrasting visuals, each unique in its formation and appearance.

Hraunfossar Waterfall, also known as “Lava Falls,” is a series of small waterfalls stretching about 2,950 feet (900 meters). Glacial water seeps through porous lava rock, creating delicate streams that flow into the river.

In contrast, the raging Barnafoss Waterfall, or “Children’s Waterfall,” runs through a narrow rocky gorge. Your guide will share the folklore behind its name, adding to its intrigue.

As your 2-day Snaefellsnes tour comes to a close, you’ll board the minibus for the return trip to Reykjavik. If the conditions are right, your group will stop for one last opportunity to witness the northern lights. With some luck, you may catch a final glimpse of this natural phenomenon before concluding your journey.

Once back in Reykjavik, you can head to the international airport for your flight home or stay longer to explore more of Iceland’s incredible landscapes. This journey may end, but Iceland's wonder lingers, leaving you with stories to tell and places to return to.
