Description

Discover some of Iceland’s most majestic natural attractions on this unforgettable trip to the South Coast. This 11-hour adventure takes travelers through hidden waterfalls, black sand beaches, and unique rock formations that have made the region one of the country's most fascinating destinations.

Your thrilling day of sightseeing begins when a friendly local guide picks you up from your Reykjavik accommodation. With a small group, you’ll ride a comfortable vehicle with free Wi-Fi to stay connected during the trip. While on the road, the guide will share stories about Iceland’s history, culture, and the attractions you’ll visit.

Your first stop for the day is the iconic Seljalandsfoss waterfall. Located just off the Ring Road, the Seljalandsfoss waterfall stands approximately 200 feet (60 meters) tall, with water plunging from a high cliff into a shallow pool below. However, what makes Seljalandsfoss especially famous is the cave-like pathway that runs behind it.

You can walk around the back of the waterfall for a truly immersive experience. From this vantage point, you can watch the cascading water from behind, capturing a view framed by the rugged rock and lush greenery, particularly enchanting during summer.

Next, you’ll visit Gljufrafoss waterfall, a hidden gem on the South Coast. Unlike many of Iceland’s waterfalls that are open to the sky, Gljufrabui is partially concealed by a towering cliff. Part of the adventure is following a narrow path that leads into a small gorge.

Entering the gorge, you’ll carefully cross rocks as water droplets mist the air. Inside, a 130-foot (40-meter) waterfall will greet you as it plunges from the cliff above, framed by mossy walls.

Your waterfall adventure continues with a visit to the impressive Godafoss. Known as the "Waterfall of the Gods," Godafoss waterfall spans about 100 feet (30 meters) in width and plunges 40 feet (12 meters) into a horseshoe-shaped canyon.

For your final waterfall stop, you’ll visit Kvernufoss, another hidden gem near Skogafoss waterfall. Kvernufoss waterfall measures 98 feet (30 meters) and flows elegantly over a cliff surrounded by lush greenery if you visit in summer.

Next, your guide will take you to the famous Reynisfjara black sand beach. Known for its jet-black volcanic sands and dramatic basalt columns, Reynisfjara offers a unique landscape that feels like you’re visiting another world.

One of the highlights of Reynisfjara is the iconic basalt sea stacks called Reynisdrangar, rising sharply from the ocean just offshore. According to Icelandic folklore, these formations are believed to be petrified trolls, turned to stone by the sunlight as they attempted to drag a ship to shore.

You’ll also see its impressive basalt columns, arranged in striking geometric formations that line the cliffs. Be sure to take photos with the basalt columns.

Next, you’ll head to the picturesque town of Vik for lunch. Vik i Myrdal, commonly known as Vík, is the southernmost village in Iceland and a beloved stop along the country’s scenic Ring Road.

After a filling meal, you’ll head to your final stop: the Dyrholaey peninsula. Known for its dramatic sea cliffs, unique rock formations, and panoramic views, Dyrholaey stands at around 390 feet (120 meters) high. Its most popular feature is a stone arch with the same name. This arch has naturally formed in the cliffs and is large enough for small boats to pass through.

At the end of a day of sightseeing, you’ll return to your comfortable vehicle for the trip back to Reykjavik.
