Description

Jump aboard a minibus for an exploration of the waterfalls, black sand beaches, and glaciers of Iceland's South Coast. This tour should not be missed by any who want to enjoy the essentials of Icelandic sightseeing.

You will be picked up from your meeting point in Reykjavík in the morning by your friendly, experienced guide, and start your adventures. A maximum of nineteen guests will travel in the minibus, guaranteeing that on this excursion, your experience will be comfortable and personal.

The drive to your destinations promises to be very scenic, with lava fields and rolling countryside in equal measure, charming little towns, towering mountains and beautiful seascapes. If the weather is clear, you’ll be able to see features such as the Westman Islands and Eyjafjallajökull, the famous glacier and volcano that erupted in 2010.

Your first stop will be at Seljalandsfoss Waterfall. This falls, which is over sixty metres tall, tumbles from a cliff that curves inwards; this means, when there is no ice on the ground or risk of rockfall above, you can fully encircle it, allowing for some excellent photographs.

Skógafoss waterfall is next on your list, just down the route. Though as tall as Seljalandsfoss, it is many times wider and much more powerful; the scale of it is incredibly impressive, especially considering the amount of spray rising as the water smashes against the rocks below.

The third destination on your list is Reynisfjara black sand beach. This stretch of coastline is renowned for its beauty, eeriness, and dramatic geology. Of particular interest are the sea-stacks that tower from the surface of the tumultuous ocean, Reynisdrangar. According to local folklore, these were two trolls, turned to stone in the sunlight as they tried to pull a ship into the bay.

If the weather is clear, you will also see the Dyrhólaey rock arch and cliffs here. This dramatic feature arches out into the sea and is the site of many bizarre hexagonal basalt columns, which are very unusual and rare geological formations. In summer, thousands of puffins nest in the crags.

Finally, you will travel to Sólheimajokull. This fascinating glacier tongue stretches from the greater ice cap Mýrdalsjökull, which covers the volcano Katla, the eruptions of which are even bigger than Eyjafjallajökull's. The colouration of the outlet is as striking as its scale; in the depths of winter, it is clad in electric blue ice, and in warmer months, veined and streaked with black ash.

With all these features packed into a single day, you will return to your minibus and be whisked back to Reykjavík.

Don’t miss this opportunity to witness the sites of the South Coast. Check availability by choosing a date.
