Are you enjoying Iceland yet?
I find (and I hope) that no one comes to Iceland for the weather. We have summer and winter, but there can be a week of sunny, bright and still weather for a week, any week of the year. It can also be the other way around with storm and rain for a week - any week of the year. Or one could experience four seasons in one day.
This does not have to be a bad thing. The nature is so raw in it's beauty, making rough weather fit nicely. And when the rain or fog cover the mountains afar, it reveals the lava and the green moss up close to the traveler.
After all it's only weather, nothing personal. It's the same weather for all of us, so what's the difference?
What makes some people love and enjoy every minute of every day in Iceland, while others have to retreat shivering to the heater of he bus or the rental car?
The key to enjoying your time in Iceland, and to enjoying living in Iceland, it simple.
Proper clothing.
If you have proper clothing you'll be dry, warm and your hands will not be shaking so your photos will be brilliant and your time will be awesome.
Bring your best clothes and if you are cold or wet after your first day, go and buy some more good gear, wool socks are a good start.
There are outlets if down-town prices are insane, if you are very cold and quite wet on your first afternoon, it would be worth it to take a taxi to Skeifan to find the stores and outlets used by locals.
