Penguins Invade Iceland

Did you know that penguins have started arriving in Iceland? And not just one or two, but by the thousands! Find out more here. EDIT: This was an April's Fool joke. You still have to head to South Africa, Australia or Argentina to see penguins in the wild! Usually, around this time of year, Icelander's greet a flock of migrating birds to its shores, perhaps most famously the Atlantic puffin. But this year, an extraordinary natural occurrence is taking place. Penguins are flocking to Iceland by the thousands!! Reykjavik's First Food Hall: Hlemmur Mathöll

Attention all foodies coming to Iceland: Reykjavík has a one-stop-shop for some of the best food in town, and also with the best prices. There's a new Food Hall in town, Hlemmur Mathöll, briefly the only Food Hall in Reykjavík, and it's amazing! Okay, so not exactly new, as I write this several months after Hlemmur Mathöll opened its doors to hungry and thirsty Reykjavík-ians as well as curious travellers in August 2017. But that just means I've had the time to go there several times and almost check out everything on the menus of all the restaurants in there. Of which there are a few. Ten

The Best Reykjavik Christmas Markets 2024

Where are Christmas markets in Reykjavík? What happens at Christmas markets in Iceland? Find the best Christmas markets in Reykjavík here. Christmas markets have, for the longest time, been an attraction all over Europe, and people flock to snowy countries with tall mountains in search of wooden cabins, snow-covered pine trees and mulled wine to find the perfect Christmas spirit. It might then come as a surprise that markets are not at all common in Iceland. The population is just too small to make a regular market thrive, and the only longstanding market in Reykjavik that's open all year
