"To the strength of the people, and to President Yoon Suk Yeol, we warn. If the ruling party rejects the parliamentary vote and the president vetoes it, we will take the lead in ousting the government." - Jeong Won-cheol, President of the Marine Corps Reserve System

The Marine Corps Reserve Alliance visited the People's Power Headquarters ahead of the National Assembly's plenary session on the 2nd and strongly demanded the introduction and passage of the Special Investigation Act on Sickness.

Wearing red clothes symbolizing the Marine Corps, they gathered in front of the People's Power headquarters in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, at 1 p.m. on the same day, holding a hand sign that read, "The Special Investigation Act on Chae Sang-byung, the suspension of the oppression on Colonel Park Jung-hoon," and raised their voices, "Can we say that these forces (like the People's Power against the Special Investigation Act on Chae Sang-byung) are the ruling party of Korea?"

"We spent nine months on the streets to investigate the death of Corporal Chae and find out the truth about external pressure," said Jeong Won-cheol, chairman of the Marine Corps Reserve who took the microphone on their behalf. "We have asked for dialogue and delivered our position to the people's power officials numerous times, but they have not responded to us. The only thing that has come back is cold-heartedness."

"What has the power of the people done when the soldier has died?" he said. "Does the power of the people really think about the security of this country? Are these trashy people the ruling party of Korea? I hope that the power of the people and the president will no longer turn a blind eye to the public sentiment and accept the independent counsel bill on Chae Sang-byung."

Kim Kyu-hyun, a former Marine lawyer who is providing legal advice to the Marine Corps Reserve Alliance, said, "(The power of the people) is initially arguing that there is a poison clause," and now, "The Public Prosecution Service (high-ranking public official's crime investigation office) and the police are investigating, so we should discuss it after the investigation is over." "Did the police and prosecution not investigate (before) during the special prosecution in the past?"

"The quickest and cleanest way to handle a case is the special prosecutor's office, which sets a maximum period of three months for legal investigation. After three months, the South Korean military will be able to return to its original duty and concentrate on national security, and the political community will be able to put an end to the issue and discuss numerous policies for national security and people's livelihoods," he said. "Does this mean that the political strife will continue until the end of this administration while waiting for an investigation that nothing is revealed and when it will end? Even now, the power of the people will attend the plenary session of the National Assembly at 2 p.m. and pass the independent counsel bill."

Kim Young-woo (579th), a member of the Marine Corps Reserve Regiment who attended the rally with his wife, said, "I came from Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi-do, to pass the Special Investigation Act on Chae Sang-saeng. We hope that our cries will serve as a cornerstone for uncovering the truth of unfair deaths in the military, including the Army, Navy, and Air Force."

After the rally, 45 members of the Marine Corps Reserve Regiment moved directly to the plenary session of the National Assembly to see if the Special Investigation Act on Chae Sang-saeng was introduced or passed.

The Special Investigation Act on Chae Sang-byung met the requirements of the plenary session on the 3rd of last month after a 180-day deliberation period after being designated as a fast-track agenda (fast track) led by the Democratic Party of Korea in October last year. The ruling and opposition parties agreed to deal with the special law on the Itaewon disaster on the 1st, but failed to agree on the revision of the Special Investigation Act on Chae Sang-byung and the Special Act on Jeonse Fraud.

The Democratic Party of Korea is showing a strong will, such as, "Even if the sky is two, I will deal with the Chae Sang-byung Special Investigation Act today." However, it is unclear whether National Assembly Speaker Kim Jin-pyo, who is emphasizing the agreement on the controversial bill, will decide to introduce the bill.
