Korean Shooting Without Jin Jong-oh, Aiming for the ‘Golden Shot’ in Paris
Shooting, the 'best sport' that has won 7 Olympic gold medals... In Paris, '1 gold, 2 silver, 3 bronze' is the goal 'setting a new world record' Women's pistol Kim Ye-ji and 'high school girl rifle shooter' Ban Hyo-jin are expected to win medals.
The 2024 Paris Olympics will be the first competition for the South Korean shooting team after the retirement of 'shooting emperor' Jin Jong-oh.
Jin Jong-oh, who has won four gold medals (two silver medals) and more than half of the total gold medals (seven) won by South Korea in Olympic shooting, has been in charge of South Korean shooting since the 2004 Athens Olympics and up until the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Now, Korean shooting, which has entered the 'post-Jin Jong-oh' era, is determined to sound the 'golden gun' for the first time in eight years at the Paris Olympics. 토토사이트 추천
Korean shooting, which first stood on the top of the podium at the Olympics by winning two gold medals at the 1992 Barcelona Games, achieved its best results ever with three gold medals and two silver medals at the 2012 London Olympics.
After that, it won one gold medal and one silver medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, and only one silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The shooting team will reminisce about the London Olympics 12 years ago, when they achieved their best results, and will enter the competition with the determination to once again enjoy their heyday in Paris.
Shooting is a traditional sport that has been held since the first Olympics in Athens, Greece in 1896.
Our country first participated in the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, and after winning its first ever Olympic medal in shooting (a silver medal) at the 1988 Seoul Games, it went on to win a total of 17 medals (7 gold, 9 silver, and 1 bronze).
A total of 16 athletes (10 women, 6 men) will compete in the Paris Olympics, and including coaches and staff, 29 people will head to Paris.
Korea shooting team Coach Gap-seok Jang initially set his goal for the Paris Olympics as one gold, two silvers, and one bronze, but recently announced that he would increase the number of bronze medals by two to one gold, two silvers, and three bronzes.
Yang Ji-in (Korea National Sport University), ranked second in the world in the women's 25m pistol, and Kim Ye-ji (Imsil County Office, ranked fourth in the world), who set a new world record in this event at the International Shooting Federation (ISSF) World Cup held in Baku, Azerbaijan in May, are considered strong medal candidates.
Also, Korea's male rapid-fire pistol star Song Jong-ho (IBK Industrial Bank, ranked 4th in the world) and women's rifle 50m 3 positions Lee Eun-seo (Seosan City Hall, ranked 6th in the world) can win medals at any time.
Ban Hyo-jin (ranked 16th in the world), a second-year student at Daegu Physical Education High School, is aiming for a 'high school girl's gold medal' in the women's 10m air rifle, like Yeo Gap-soon, who won gold at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
In the shotgun event, Ibona (Busan City Hall, ranked 50th in the world), who won a silver medal (women's double trap) and a bronze medal (women's trap) at the 2004 Athens Olympics, is aiming for her first Olympic medal in 20 years.
The only 'shotgun Olympic medalist' among Korean shooters, Ibona was born in 1981 and is the oldest member of the Korean team at the Paris Olympics.
The Paris Olympic shooting event will be held at the National Shooting Center in Chateauroux from July 27 to August 5.
Chateauroux, located in central France, is 320km from Paris, and shooters will stay in a separate athletes' village in Chateauroux. There
are a total of 15 gold medals up for grabs in shooting, including 5 pistols, 5 rifles, and 5 shotguns.
Shooting events include pistols, which are held with one hand, rifles, which have a long barrel and must be held with both hands, and shotguns, which involve hitting moving targets.
In the pistol, there are four individual gold medals in the men's and women's 10m air pistol, men's 25m rapid-fire pistol, and women's 25m pistol, and one gold medal in the 10m mixed team event.
In the rifle, there are four individual gold medals in the men's and women's 10m air pistol, men's and women's 50m rifle 3 positions, and one gold medal in the 10m mixed team event.
Shotgun is divided into trap (men's and women's) where you shoot and hit a single target (clay) and skeet (men's and women's) where you hit two targets flying toward each other.
At the Tokyo Olympics, only the trap event was a mixed team event, but at the Paris Olympics, it was replaced with the skeet event.
81 countries are participating in the shooting events at the Paris Olympics, and there are 340 athletes (170 men and 170 women), which is 20 fewer than the last competition.
