Korea wins 12th gold medal at Paris Olympics after winning by forfeit against Magomedov in final.
Park Tae-jun (20, Kyunghee University) became the first Korean athlete to win a gold medal in the men's 58kg class of Olympic Taekwondo.
It has been 16 years since Korea won a gold medal in men's Taekwondo.
Park Tae-jun (world ranking 5th) won by withdrawal due to injury against Gasim Magomedov (Azerbaijan, 26th) in the final of the men's 58kg class of Taekwondo at the 2024 Paris Olympics held at the Grand Palais in Paris, France on the 7th (local time).
Park Tae-jun, who scored first by hitting the torso as the match began, went on the offensive early.

After the end of the round, Magomedov, who was unable to walk properly and had to be helped down from the stadium by his coach, made a difficult comeback despite the pain and drew applause from the audience.
However, Park Tae-jun did not let him off the hook and continued to attack with kicks in the second round.
Magomedov, who had been holding on with difficulty, collapsed again complaining of pain about 1 minute before the end of the match when the score gap had widened to 1-13.
After that, Magomedov, who was unable to get up again, forfeited, confirming Park Tae-jun’s victory.
It has been 16 years since a Korean male athlete won a gold medal.
Park Tae-jun will be the first to stand on the podium since Son Tae-jin (68kg class) and Cha Dong-min (over 80kg class) at the 2008 Beijing Games.
Park Tae-jun is a Korean Taekwondo 'supernova' who is evaluated to have grown remarkably over the past two years.
Park Tae-jun, who was first selected as a national representative in 2022 while attending Hansung High School, will be competing in his first Olympics.
Park Tae-jun, who made his name on the international stage by winning the World Grand Prix Series in October 2022 when he was a senior in high school, also won the World Championships (54kg class) held in Baku, Azerbaijan last year.
In February, he won a ticket to Paris by beating Jang Jun.
The star of Korean sparring and world number 3, at the Olympic trials, and also took home the honor of a gold medal.
This is the twelfth gold medal won by the Korean team at the Paris Olympics.
Adding just one more would bring the total to 13, the most ever won in Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012.
