T1, Saudi EWC LoL Inaugural Champion
"As Expected, Daesanghyeok"... T1, Saudi EWC LoL Inaugural Champion
“All roads lead to me.”
Esports icon Faker Lee Sang-hyeok (28, T1) has proven his words once again.
T1, which Lee Sang-hyeok represents the Korean League of Legends (LoL) professional league LCK in the Esports World Cup (hereinafter referred to as EWC) held in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, won the LoL event in the finals against Top Esports (TES) of the Chinese league LPL on the 8th.
With this, T1 has made history as the first champion of the Saudi Esports World Cup LoL event.
Lee Sang-hyeok, who was selected as the MVP of the finals, also added a new trophy to his career by winning the EWC LoL event, following his wins at the League of Legends World Championship (Worlds) and the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI), international tournaments hosted by Riot Games.

T1 was not a strong contender for the championship of this esports World Cup.
Although they were considered a team to watch, many said they were inferior to Gen. G Esports of the LCK, who won the 2024 MSI, and Top Esports (TES), who are undefeated in the 2024 Summer Split of the Chinese league LPL.
However, T1 overturned such evaluations and lifted the trophy.
First, T1 got off to a good start by defeating LPL team Bilibili Gaming (BLG) with a set score of 2 to 1 in the first match of the tournament.
T1 lost to BLG in the 2024 MSI and failed to advance to the finals.
This time, they successfully got their revenge by eliminating BLG in the quarterfinals.
T1, who advanced to the semifinals, faced Team Liquid (TL) of the North American league LCS.
Contrary to expectations that it would be an easy victory, they were cornered after losing the first set.
However, T1 started to fight back from the second set and won a comeback victory against TL to advance to the finals.
The final opponent was TES, a strong contender for the championship.
TES defeated Gen.G 2-0 in the quarterfinals and also defeated their semifinal opponent, European powerhouse G2 Esports 2-0, showing off their powerful force without allowing a single loss.
In fact, TES also showed off this kind of power in the first set of the finals, defeating T1 and taking the lead.
However, T1 turned the tide of the game starting with Lee Sang-hyeok's performance in the second set.
Lee Sang-hyeok, who chose Ari in the second set, joined the top lane and took the lead by countering TES's attacks.
T1, who had gained momentum, took out all of TES's players in a team fight around 25 minutes into the game, destroying the opponent's Nexus and turning the game back to square one.
In the third set, jungler 'Owner' Moon Hyun-jun's performance shone.
Based on his fast jungling, Moon Hyun-jun continuously infiltrated the opponent's jungle and hindered the growth of TES jungler 'Tian' Gao Tianliang, who chose Zyra.
At around 8 minutes into the game, he widened the gap further by taking out the opponent's mid laner with his fantastic teamwork with Lee Sang-hyeok.
T1, who widened the growth gap based on Moon Hyun-jun's performance, won a great victory by taking out four opponents in a dragon team fight around 18 minutes.
After that, T1 won another team fight at around 24 minutes and successfully hunted the large objective, Baron Nashor, solidifying their victory.
After that, TES put up a fierce resistance, but they could not break T1's dominance.
Finally, at around 38 minutes, T1 took Baron Nashor and advanced, destroying TES's Nexus.
In the final 4th set, T1 showed a surprise card called Mid Yasuo.
T1 took the lead in the early top lane with the fantastic teamwork between top laner Choi 'Zeus' Woo-je and Moon Hyun-jun, making 2 kills.
However, the game was balanced again when TES gave up multiple kills in the Herald team fight at 14 minutes and 50 seconds.
T1, who had regrouped, focused and took out all TES players in the mid lane fight at 22 minutes and succeeded in catching Baron Nashor.
With the upper hand, T1 pressed TES and at 28 minutes and 40 seconds, they annihilated the opponents once again in the fourth dragon team fight and destroyed TES' Nexus, becoming the first champion of the eSports World Cup LoL category.
Meanwhile, T1, who won the first eSports World Cup champion, will face OK Savings Bank Brion in the LCK Summer Season regular league on the 10th.
It seems that conditioning management will be important in a tight schedule.
While T1 gained momentum by winning the EWC, Gen.G, who had been on a roll, suffered a shocking defeat, so fans are interested in how this will affect the LCK power structure.
Gen.G, who also participated in the EWC, will face Guangdong Freecs on the 11th.
