Son Heung-min, Who Summoned a Penalty Shootout
Asian Cup Son Heung-min, Who Summoned a Penalty Shootout 13 Years Ago, Says Kicker Anna Seon Blames Park Ji-sung
Son Heung-min, unlike Park Ji-sung 13 years ago, contributed to victory by taking the number 1 kicker in the penalty shootout in the round of 16.
“Our relationship was so good that we laughed and talked… I didn’t want to have any regrets.”
“It’s a joke, but (Park) Ji-sung still blames his older brother a lot.
Haha,” said Son Heung-min (Tottenham), who finished the first hurdle of winning the Asian Cup in 64 years with a smile after a close game that went to a penalty shootout. 파워볼 동행복권
The 'memory' summoned by Son Heung-min is the semifinals of the 2011 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Qatar Asian Cup held 13 years ago.
At that time, Korea clashed with Japan in the semifinals.
The score was 2-2 until extra time, so a penalty shootout was held.
However, veterans such as ‘Captain’ Park Ji-sung (current Jeonbuk Hyundai director) did not step up as penalty kick kickers.
Young players stepped up as kickers, but Koo Ja-cheol (Jeju), Lee Yong-rae (Daegu), and Hong Jeong-ho (Jeonbuk) missed one after another, ultimately failing to advance to the finals.
In the Asian Cup round of 16 held 13 years later on the same soil in Qatar, Son Heung-min confidently stepped up as the first kicker in the penalty shootout and hit Saudi Arabia's net.
Son Heung-min, who met with reporters before training at the Al Egla Training Center in Doha, Qatar, on the 31st, the day after the Saudi Arabia match, 'summoned' Park Ji-sung when asked, 'Was it burdensome to be the first kicker?'
Son Heung-min said, “I can say things like that with a smile because my relationship with Ji-sung is still very good,” and “(I) didn’t want to have any regrets like that.”
He continued, “Anyway, the most important thing is the first or last kicker,” and “I wanted to choose one of them.”
“The coach told me to be the first kicker, so I was able to kick without any hesitation,” he said.
After the penalty shootout, Son Heung-min went to goalkeeper Cho Hyun-woo (Ulsan) to encourage him.
Cho Hyun-woo blocked two of the opponent’s shots and advanced to the quarterfinals against Klinsmann.
Son Heung-min said, “I wanted to give Hyun-woo a little strength.”
“We are in a position where we have to kick, and Hyunwoo is in a position where he has to block, but from the kicker’s point of view, there was an expectation that Hyunwoo would block it,” he said.
Korea had all four kickers in the penalty shootout until Saudi Arabia’s defeat was confirmed. succeeded in
Son Heung-min is said to have advised his juniors as kickers, 'Don't worry about anything such as boos or stadium atmosphere, just focus on the ball and the direction you want to kick it.'
Son Heung-min said emphatically, “I am proud of the players for showing a great performance in the penalty shootout with a strong sense of responsibility.”
Korea's opponent in the quarterfinals is Socceroo Australia.
In the final of the 2015 Australian Championship, Korea lost 1-2 in overtime to Australia and had to be content with second place.
In the final at the time, Son Heung-min scored the 1-1 equalizer, but ended up shedding tears of regret.
Son Heung-min said, "I was quite heartbroken in 2015.
I don't want to repeat that mistake.
As it is an important game, I will recover well and play a good game."
