England's Southgate, the man who reminds us of Klinsmann "Mockery is my fuel"
England manager Gareth Southgate made headlines when he said that "ridicule is my strength" and that he finds criticism from pundits and fans motivating. Southgate's mysterious victories in the face of inexplicably poor performances and his unconcerned attitude toward criticism are reminiscent of Jürgen Klinsmann, who coached the South Korean national team.
On the 8th (KST), the British media 'Mirror' reported, "Southgate has responded to the personal attacks from England's critics. He said he is using the mockery against him as the driving force behind the flurry of criticism.
Southgate said: "As you can see, it's my personality. Being England manager is a job that is ridiculed, a job where your professionalism is questioned beyond belief. You get beer cans thrown at you. I don't think that's normal," he said, adding that the abuse he received from those around him during Euro 2024 was abnormal.
"But I've been fortunate to have developed resilience in my life. It's made me more determined. I use them as fuel. I know where I have to lead the team. I have to show up strong. If I don't, it doesn't send the message to the team that they need to hear."
England were the 'zero favorites' before the tournament.
They boasted one of the most prolific attacking lines in Europe, with Harry Kane (Bayern Munich), Judd Bellingham (Real Madrid), Phil Foden (Manchester City), and Xherdan Shaqiri (Arsenal). The likes of Cole Palmer (Chelsea), who exploded for 22 Premier League goals, 바카라사이트넷 Ebereze Eze (Crystal Palace), and Kobi Mainu (Manchester United), who has emerged as a superstar prospect, have been relegated to the bench.
However, their performances in the group stage were far from the tournament favorites.
England were drawn in Group C with Denmark, Slovenia, and Serbia. They qualified for the round of 16 with one win and two draws to top the group, but their performances were disappointing. They scored just two goals in their three group games.
In the round of 16, they were fortunate to be drawn against Slovakia, who finished third in Group E. The game was close for the entire 90 minutes before they narrowly equalized in stoppage time and went on to win 2-1 in extra time.
In the quarterfinals, we faced Switzerland, and once again, we were defeated by a late goal, this time in dramatic fashion to tie the game 1-1. After 120 minutes of extra time, we went to penalty kicks and advanced to the quarterfinals. They will face the Netherlands in the semifinals. If they make it to the final, they'll face the winner of the France-Spain match.
Anyway, the results are in. Under Southgate, England has reached the quarterfinals of three of the last four major tournaments: the World Cup 2018 quarterfinals, Euro 2020 final, World Cup 2022 quarterfinals, and Euro 2024 quarterfinals (ongoing).
"We are here," Southgate said. The players and staff are focused on this. We want to take the next step. We've seen signs of improvement in the way we're playing. We've seen signs of improvement in the way we've been playing."
