'Extraordinary' Arsenal backing gives SON and Tottenham a 'win-win' over 'title-close' Man City
Can Tottenham Hotspur catch Manchester City with the support of Kai Havertz (25, Arsenal)?
"Fresh from beating Manchester United, Kai Havertz has sent a clear message to Tottenham Hotspur," Football London reported on Wednesday (June 13).
Arsenal faced Manchester United in the 37th round of the 2023-2024 Premier League season at Old Trafford in Manchester, England, at 0:30 a.m. The result was a 1-0 victory. With the three points, Arsenal took the lead at the top of the table with 86 points (27 wins, 5 draws, and 5 losses), ahead of Manchester City (85 points), who have played one game less.
Arsenal will try to win their first league title in 20 years this season. Arsenal's last league title came in the 2003-2004 season under legends like Arsène Wenger and Thierry Henry.
Arsenal are currently in first place in the league, but second-place Man City have a better chance of winning the league. That's because they've played one less game and are separated by only one point.
Arsenal has only one game left before the end of the league. It's against Everton. City hosts Tottenham on the 15th and then West Ham United in the final game.
Spurs are ahead of West Ham on objective strength of schedule, so they are the more likely team to stop City from winning the title. Furthermore, 안전놀이터 City have a history of being weak away from home against Tottenham. The matchup will also take place at Spurs' home Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Before the historic league win, Arsenal forward Kai Havertz was rooting for Spurs. It's not often you see an Arsenal player rooting for Tottenham. The two teams share the same North London neighborhood.
Tottenham and Arsenal have one of the greatest rivalries in England. The rivalry started more than 100 years ago, and the two teams have been feuding ever since. Tottenham captain Sol Campbell's move to Arsenal, where he led the Gunners to an undefeated title, added fuel to the fire.
Given the circumstances, Arsenal will be rooting for Tottenham to win the match against Man City.
Speaking to Sky Sports shortly after the win over United, Wenger said: "At this moment I'm the biggest fan of Tottenham. We (Arsenal) all are, so I wish them all the best," he said, calling on Spurs to beat Man City.
Tottenham will not be happy to see Arsenal win the league title, but that doesn't mean they can go into the match against the Gunners with a clean sheet. They need to move up to fourth place to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
Before the Burnley game, it was possible that the fourth spot could change hands if Spurs won at least two of their remaining games and current fourth-place Aston Villa lost two in a row. And Spurs beat Burnley. Regardless of Aston Villa's remaining fixtures, Spurs should be looking to pick up three more points.
While Spurs will face league leaders City, they can take solace in the fact that Son Heung-min scored in their last meeting, and that City haven't won away from home in recent seasons.
Aston Villa, meanwhile, drew 3-3 with Liverpool on Thursday at Villa Park in Birmingham, England, in the 27th round of the league. Although the result doesn't clinch the fourth spot, it does open up a very favorable five-point gap over fifth-place Tottenham (63 points), who have played one game less.
For Spurs, they'll need to beat both Manchester City and Sheffield United in their remaining two games and hope Villa stumble at Crystal Palace. If Spurs can pick up six more points and Villa stays on 68 points, they can turn the tables. If Villa draws with Palace, they will be tied on 69 points. However, the goal difference is very unfavorable, with Spurs at +12 and Villa at +20.
Tottenham and Arsenal will have to take a cue from their 'rivals' and realize a 'win-win' by catching Man City.
