A 141m mega home run went off, a batter twice in a game!
In a game against the Colorado Rockies at Estadio Alfredo Harp Helu in Mexico City on the 28th (Korea Standard Time), Álvarez started the game as the third designated hitter and recorded three hits, two homers, three RBIs and two runs from five times at bat. He hit his sixth and seventh home run of the season, tying for sixth in home runs in both leagues.
After being caught with a fly ball to the left field in the top of the first inning with two outs, Alvarez hit an 86.7 mph (139.5 km) splitter from Colorado's right-handed starter Carl Quantrill to hit a come-from-behind two-run homer over the right-center fence in the third inning when Houston was losing 1-2. The homer stretched to 108.8 miles (175.1 km) with a flying distance of 461 feet (141 meters). Then came Kyle Tucker's back-to-back homer, which gave Houston a 4-2 lead.
Alvarez added another hit in the seventh inning, and took the lead in the ninth inning with Houston leading 8-2. Alvarez hit right-handed relief pitcher Tyler Keaney's two-pitch 95.4 miles of four-seam, and hit a solo homer over the fence. He hit 113 miles (181.9 kilometers) at the speed and 461 feet at driving distance. Thanks to Alvarez's performance, Houston won 12-4.
Álvarez, who has become the leading home run hitter in the Major League with more than 30 home runs for three consecutive years from 2021 to last year, is also playing with 27 games batting average of 28.3 percent (30 hits in 106 times at bat), seven homers, 17 RBIs, 18 runs, and an OPS of .867.
Houston Astros is at the bottom of the American League West with eight wins and 19 losses and a .296 win rate this season. The team escaped from five consecutive losses by winning the game on the day, but there is still a gap between the team's advance to the top ranks. Houston only scored 10 points during the five-game losing streak.
The official Major League media MLB.com introduced Alvarez's interview, shedding light on Houston's recent slump. Alvarez said, "It's no secret that we're having a hard time hitting. Still, I believe in our team's talent. I told my teammates, "Today is the beginning of our season," adding that I was confident that Houston's batters will revive.
Mike Trout of the Angels hit the longest home run in the Major League this season. Trout hit an ultra-large 473 feet (144 meters) home run in the game against Miami on Tuesday. Alvarez tied for second with Ketel Marte (461 feet) in the game. However, he is the only player who has hit a homer over 461 feet twice. What's more, he wilded fans by hitting the homer twice in a game.
According to Baseball Servant, the official statistics site of Major League Baseball, Alvarez is the second batter to hit more than two home runs over 461 feet in a game since Statcast was introduced in 2015.
