Oh, my. Lee Jung-hoo lost his home run again!

Lee Jung-hoo (26) of the San Francisco Giants lost his home run once again. The ball that would have gone over to another stadium was caught for two days following the previous day (on Sunday). Still, Lee hit a hit for the first time at Fenway Park, the oldest stadium in the Major League.

In an away game against the Boston Red Sox of the 2024 U.S. Major League Baseball (MLB) at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on the 2nd (Korea time), Lee Jung-hoo started as the first hitter and recorded one hit in four times at bat.

Having had no hit in four at-bats in his first away game at Fenway Park on the previous day, Lee had his first hit at the traditional Fenway Park for the first time. Fenway Park is well known as the oldest stadium in the Major League. It opened in 1912 and marks its 112th anniversary. In particular, the 11-meter-tall fence on the left side of Fenway Park is called the "Green Monster" and has established itself as a specialty of the Major League.

After the game, Lee Jung-hoo's performance this season was 0.259 (29 hits in 112 at-bats) in 29 games, three doubles, zero triples, two homers, seven RBIs, 13 runs scored, 10 walks, 10 strikeouts and two steals (3 failures) with a 0.320 on-base percentage, 0.339 on-base percentage, and 0.659 on-base percentage (OPS).

The San Francisco Giants lined up starting pitchers Lee Jung-hoo (center field), Jorge Soler (designated hitter), Ramonte Wade Jr. (first baseman), Matt Chapman (third baseman), Michael Confoto (left fielder), Tyro Estrada (second baseman), Mike Yastremski (right fielder), Tom Murphy (catcher), and Nick Ahmed (striker). While playing bullpen day, the starting pitcher was Dalton Jeffries.

In response, the Boston Red Sox started in the order of Jarren Duran (center fielder), Rafael Devers (third baseman), Rob Refsnyder (left fielder), Tyler O'Neill (right fielder), Willier Abreu (right fielder), Connor Wong (catcher), Dominic Smith (first baseman), Emmanuel Valdez (second baseman) and Cedane Raphael (striker). Cutter Crawford started the game.

Lee had a hit from his first at bat in the top of the first inning, and started cleanly. Just watching the strike (four-seam fastball) that came into the lower course of the first pitch, Lee hit the 88.6 miles (142.6 kilometers) cutter on the higher course of the second pitch, and connected it to the right-handed hit. The hit was so well that I felt it was a hit when I was hit by the bat. It was the moment when Lee produced his first hit at Fenway Park. According to MLB.com , the official website of the Major League, the batting speed was 75.3 miles (121.1 kilometers) with a flying distance of 238 feet (72.5 meters) and a firing angle of 22 degrees. However, Lee could not step home as Jorge Soler, the follow-up, gave a foul pop flyout to shortstop, and Ramonte Aid Jr. and Matt Chapman gave up consecutive strikeouts.

Afterwards, Lee unfortunately failed to produce a hit at bat. Lee took his second at bat in the top of the third inning with one out and no runner, while his team was leading 1-0. Still, the opponent team's pitcher was starting Crawford. Lee just watched the strike (knuckle curve) in the middle of the first pitch. Then, he pitched the second pitch. This time, when 92.2 miles (148.3 kilometers) entered the course slightly higher than the center, Lee's bat swung vigorously. However, the ball failed to extend far and ended up in the glove of Boston left fielder Rob Refsnyder.

The most regrettable moment was Lee's third at-bat. With his team trailing 2-4, there was no runner with one out. Crawford was still standing on the mound. Lee just watched the cutter on a high course and found a strike. According to Game Day, about half of the balls were slightly hung on the high course. Lee picked out the sweeper who penetrated towards his legs for the second ball. The 82-mile (131.9 km) sweeper was formed on a low course and Lee didn't miss it and hit it off properly. The ball went straight towards the right fence, but was eventually caught by the glove of Boston right fielder Willier Abreu. The speed of the ball was 99.4 miles (159.9 km), the flying distance was 360 feet (109.7 m), and the angle of launch was 22 degrees.

It was the moment when the home run hit was taken away once again like the previous day. On the previous day, Lee Jung-hoo took the lead in the top of the ninth inning when San Francisco was losing 0-4. He targeted the sixth pitch with a ball count of 2-2 against the changed pitcher Justin Slayton, but was out after hitting a fly ball to right field. At the moment when he was hit, he seemed to be falling over. According to local media, however, the wind blew in the reverse direction, affecting the hit, and was eventually caught. According to MLB.com , the speed of the hit was 100 miles (160.9 kilometers) and the angle of launch was 34 degrees. The flying distance amounted to 377 feet (114.9 meters).

Unfortunately, Lee Jung-hoo's hit would have been taken away from Fenway Park. According to Baseball's statistical media outlet, the hit was homeruns in all but four stadiums including Fenway Park, Boston's home ground, Kauffman Stadium of the Kansas City Royals, the Oakland Coliseum of the Oakland Athletics and Nationals Park of the Washington Nationals. The hit that he made in his third at-bat on Tuesday was homeruns in 14 of the 30 Major League clubs, including Globe Life Field, Texas' home ground. In contrast, the hit was not homeruns in 16 stadiums including Oracle Park, San Francisco's home ground.

Lee took the fourth batter's box as a lead-off man in the top of the eighth inning, leaving regret behind. After picking out the ball outside the first pitch (four-seam fastball), Lee watched the four-seam fastball, which also went out of the second pitch, but a strike was declared. However, on Game Day, it was marked as a four-seam fastball that left about two balls missing. It was a rather absurd decision by referee Clint Bondlock. Then, with the third pitch, Lee hit the cutter that was driven to the center. The ball hit very well. It passed by the pitcher quickly and headed for the second base. It was a perfect hit in the middle. However, he was out due to the opponent's shift. Although he was out, the quality of the ball was very good overall. It made me look forward to the next game even more.
