'Lose, lose, lose, lose, lose, lose' Only 1 win in the last 10 games
The last place favorite's rebellion.
The Kiwoom Heroes, coached by Hong Won-ki, lost their fourth game of the season against the Samsung Lions of the 2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League 0-11 at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul on Sunday. Sixth straight loss.
Kiwoom was led by starter Ariel Furado, who pitched six innings, allowing one run on six hits and two walks while striking out six. Kim Jae-woong pitched a scoreless seventh inning to set the stage for a comeback.
But the eighth inning was the problem. Cho Sang-woo, who had come on to pitch, collapsed. After giving up a leadoff single to David McKinnon, Cho got Ryu Ji-hyuk to ground out to first base, but gave up a walk to Kim Young-woong and an RBI single to Kang Min-ho. Kiwoom removed the shaky Cho and brought up Jeon Jun-pyo.
But Jeon Jun-pyo didn't have much luck either. A walk to Kim Heung-gon, an RBI single to Kim Sung-yoon, a wild pitch, and a ground ball to Kim Ji-chan widened the gap. Lee Jae-hyun followed with an RBI single and Koo Ja-rook was hit by a pitch, forcing Jeon to go down as well.
Lee Myung-jong followed with an RBI single to McKinnon, a ground ball RBI single by Ryu Ji-hyuk, and a foul fly to Kim Young-woong to end the long eighth inning. Samsung scored seven runs in the eighth inning alone.
The crisis continued in the ninth inning. Kim Jae-sang, Kim Heon-gon, and Kim Sung-yoon gave up three consecutive hits. Kim Ji-chan's RBI 바카라 single, Lee Jae-hyun's RBI sacrifice fly, Ryu Seung-min's walk, and Kang Kang-wool's sacrifice fly were the big hits of the ninth inning.
The Samsung offense had 15 hits and seven walks on the day, with trusty Cho Sang-woo giving up three runs on two hits and one walk in 0.1 innings and super rookie Jeon Jun-pyo giving up four runs (three earned) on two hits and two walks in 0.1 innings.
The offense couldn't get going. They managed four hits off starter Connor Seabold, but couldn't get a single hit off the next four pitchers. It was disappointing.
Kiwoom had cruised through the early-season hype surrounding them as the “underdogs. After opening with four straight losses, the team reeled off seven straight wins. They even swept Hanwha in the Ryu Hyun-jin-Felix Peña-Kim Min-woo series.
However, they are 1-9 in their last 10 games. They haven't won since winning the first game of a doubleheader on April 21. They lost all of their games this week. They have been struggling with injuries to key players like Lee Hyung-jong, Lee Ju-hyung, and Park Soo-jong.
Kiwoom has announced Young-min Ha as the starter on the 28th.
