Description
Laugarfell is a magnificently located guesthouse for up to 28 travelers, found in the remote, untouched wilderness of East Iceland. A stay here cannot be missed by those visiting the region and eager to embark on a unique range of Highland adventures.
Location & Nearby
The wonderful thing about Laugarfell is that there are a few signs of civilization for miles around. The nearest settlement with plentiful amenities is Egilsstadir, over an hour’s drive away. As such, there are few places where you can immerse yourself in nature so deeply.
The guesthouse sits at the foot of the tallest mountain in the country, Mount Snaefell. This magnificent peak dominates the scenery and has created nearby features such as Kirkjufoss waterfall. As such, there are endless hiking trails you can embark on from the accommodation with ease.
It is not just those seeking to escape to the wilderness that elect to book at Laugarfell; it can be included as part of a wider adventure through the Eastfjords. After all, attractions such as the mystical lake Lagarfljót and the enormous forest of Hallormsstaðaskógur can be driven to in less than an hour. Driving directions via Road 931/933/910, about 1 hour from the Ring Road, no street address, follow Google Maps.
Facilities & Amenities
Guests lucky enough to be able to stay at Laugarfell have three choices of room; twin and double rooms with shared bathroom facilities, and four-bedroom family rooms with private facilities. All have a log-cabin style, with lovely wood paneling, providing even more ambiance to this rustic escape.
Due to the remoteness of the location, your meals can be sorted on-site: a breakfast buffet is served from 07:30 to 09:30 (2,800 ISK for adults), and dinner is served from 19:00 to 21:00, with reservations required by 16:00. The café is open from 07:30 to 21:00 and serves a soup of the day. Furthermore, you can arrange to have packed lunches for your days out.
Laugarfell has two beautiful outdoor hot tubs for the use of its guests due to the geothermal activity in the area. Hot springs open daily 09:00-22:30, entrance included for overnight guests, large spring 37-39C, small spring 42-44C. Free parking is available on site. There is a restaurant on site.
Why Choose Laugarfell?
The hot springs, remote location, spectacular surrounding nature, and beautiful lodgings speak for themselves; Laugarfell is one of the best East Iceland accommodations for those looking to get far from the beaten track. Check availability by choosing a date.
