Description
The Hali Country Hotel is a magical choice of accommodation for those travelling along the South Coast. With its proximity to Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon and wealth of modern, comfortable rooms and apartments, travelling groups of all sizes will find it a fantastic base.
Location & Nearby
Hali Country Hotel is located in the Hornafjörður area of Southeast Iceland. Jökulsárlón / Diamond Beach is about 14 km away by road, Höfn about 52 km, and Skaftafell about 70 km. The Hali Country Hotel is located just 15 minutes from Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon, a feature so beautiful that many have dubbed it ‘the crown jewel of Iceland’s nature’. In spite of its popularity, it is on the far side of the South Coast from Reykjavik, making a return journey here within a day rushed and often uncomfortable.
The Hali Country Hotel is thus a great place to retire after a much more slow-paced and enjoyable tour of this region, whether you plan to return to the capital in a day or two or to continue onto the Southeast Iceland as part of a Ring Road adventure.
Being close to Jokulsarlon is fantastic, as many guests wish to visit the site several times. The Hali Country Hotel is, however, is only around an hour from other stunning attractions, such as the Skaftafell Nature Reserve to the east and Mount Vestrahorn to the west.
In terms of amenities such as groceries, post offices and banks, the nearest town is Hofn, which is 50 minutes away.
Facilities & Amenities
Travellers wishing to stay at the Hali Country Hotel will find twin, double and triple rooms; cosy cottages that sleep up to five; and two apartments that can also accommodate up to five. As such, there truly is something for everyone. Whatever you choose, you will find your accommodation has access to free Wifi, comfy furnishings, a flat-screen TV and private bathroom facilities. The cottages and apartments also have kitchenettes.
At Hali Country Hotel, one can find both a lovely restaurant and the Thorbergur cultural heritage centre, where guests can learn about life in Iceland in the early and mid 20th Century. The restaurant in the Thorbergur Centre seats 110 and serves farm-raised arctic char and lamb, with breakfast from 7:30 to 10:00 (from 8:00 in winter), light lunches and cakes from 11:00 to 15:00, and dinner from 18:00 to 20:30 (18:00 to 20:00 in winter). Groups must reserve lunch or dinner in advance, and packed lunches are available to buy. There is also a souvenir gift shop on site, and glacier walk and ice cave tours with Glacier Adventure depart directly from the reception. The hotel is open all year on a farm that has been owned by the same family since 1860 and is home to 200 sheep. Free parking is available on site.
