I got the daunting task of choosing the 10 sexiest men in Iceland this year. My job can be so hard sometimes.
Last year we decided to make a list of the sexiest people in the country, I wrote about the women, from a female perspective and our (male) operating officer wrote the one about the men from a male’s perspective. Here you can read Ingólfur’s list of the top 10 sexiest men of 2014 – and my top list of the top 10 sexiest women in 2014. Here is the list of the top 10 sexiest women of 2015.
I think we managed to make lists of truly outstanding individuals last year, choosing people we respect and admire – and obviously find attractive as well.
This year I’m writing both lists. I assume the list of the men should be a fun one to make, except not that easy. How am I supposed to choose only 10? Can I do two lists of 10? Or three? I may have to cheat a little bit. Fortunately, I didn’t agree completely with Ingólfur’s list last year – so now I get to put some of the guys who missed out last year on here. To make it fair, I’ve actually completely replaced people* from last year.
I’m an actress myself, so, sorry if this list ends up being a bit actor heavy! I could have easily put 10 actors/directors on here but I managed to restrain myself somewhat.
10. Ingvar E. Sigurðsson
I think my first ever crush was on Ingvar E. Who wouldn’t fall for those cute dimples and piercing blue eyes? He’s one of Iceland’s finest actors – and has been for a number of years now. No matter what the role is, he’s always superb. He’s incredibly versatile when it comes to roles and is able to do comedy, drama, action – on stage, in TV, in Icelandic films, in international films – in one word, the man is a legend. Throughout the years he’s made me (and many others) feel a rollercoaster of emotions through his roles, he’s both made me cry and laugh – and that talent is very sexy. And I think he’s only getting better with age.
If I had to compare him with someone better known, then maybe he’s a bit like Harrison Ford. You can see both of them together in K-19: The Widowmaker. You can also catch Ingvar in the Icelandic films Angels of the Universe or in Of Horses and Men.

9. Tómas Guðbjartsson
Tómas is a surgeon and his name was on everyone’s lips in December 2014 after he saved a man that had been stabbed through the heart. An incredible job was done and afterwards Tómas got so much attention that his colleagues at the hospital featured him heavily in their annual staff celebration with the following video (starting at 4:21). He’s also an avid hiker and is a member of the board of Friends of Vatnajökull glacier and the Icelandic Touring Association. A surgeon that hikes mountains in his spare time and doesn’t take himself too seriously? How stereotypically sexy.
8. Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson
Any Game of Thrones fan will be familiar with Hafþór, as he played Gregor Clegane, more commonly known as ‘The Mountain’ in season 4 and 5. Hafþór is Iceland’s strongest man, Europe’s strongest man and the third strongest man in the world. I wouldn't dare not to have him on this list! Although, this hunky, enormous beast of a man who’s more than 2 meters tall is known to be quite sweet actually. Plus, he’s got a great beard, great smile and is as handsome as a mountain (that phrase works better in Icelandic: Fjallmyndarlegur). Maybe I should add him onto this list of beautiful Mountains in Iceland.

7. Arnar Fells Gunnarsson
Arnar Fells is a designer who was also one of the founding members of Faktorý, one of Iceland’s most popular nightclubs and live music venue until it was closed down a couple of years ago. Today he is in charge of a new design and architectural magazine called HA. The man is undeniably very talented and has a great eye for design – but he’s also very well liked in the industry and I’ve heard nothing but positive remarks about him from anyone that’s ever performed at Faktorý. He’s also clever, articulate (I can’t be the only person that’s attracted to good use of the language, right?) and full of interesting and new ideas. This creativity is incredibly sexy.
A bonus point, he also performs with Bartónar, the male choir of Kaffibarinn. In fact, the entire choir should have a spot here along with Arnar (first cheating on the list). If you're lucky, you might catch them doing an impromptu concert on the streets of Reykjavík this summer!
6. Locals of Guide to Iceland
OK, here’s the second cheating – all the guys at Guide to Iceland take 6th place. I know, it sounds like I’m being very biased here – but have you checked out our locals? I mainly know them through their writing and I have to say, besides their good looks, what really makes them sexy is their passion. Be it for flying, extreme sports, Northern Lights, culture, languages… the locals are actually from a mix of countries, there are photographers, pilots, guides, a medical student… There’s no way I can choose between them. And they are all friendly, fun and helpful. What more would you want? Unfortunately I don’t have a picture of them all together, so the one above is of Elmar. I must admit I've known him for a few years - and he's always been this hot!
p.s. Elmar did not agree to have this picture posted here. Actually he will most likely not condone it, so feast your eyes while you can.

5. Hugleikur Dagsson
Humour is sexy. Everyone knows that. Therefore this list wouldn’t be complete without Hugleikur. His comics may be a little dark for some people – but I find him absolutely hilarious. He’s got a great take on social events as well and can be highly political in his dark humoured, satirical comics. He has written three plays and also does stand up comedy. And he rocks the cute, geeky, dimples and glasses look.

4. Svavar Knútur
I know of (straight) men that have massive man-crushes on Svavar Knútur. And it’s no surprise. This man sings beautiful folk songs about the simple pleasures of life like an angel and then makes jokes in the crudest manner in between songs when he performs live. If you have the chance to see this man perform live, do it! His endless charisma will instantly win you over and you’ll be in stitches when he talks and haunted by the beauty of his songs when he sings. As a bonus, he can play the ukulele as well.

3. Þorvaldur Davíð
OK, this list just wouldn’t be honest if I didn’t have Þorvaldur Davíð on here. This talented actor is Iceland’s answer to Leonardo DiCaprio – both in looks and talent. He’s been a star since he was a kid, when thousands (literally, thousands) of girls fell in love with his boyish charm and good looks.
He first found fame as he did voice-overs for various Disney films (such as Simba in the Lion King), and rapped on a popular kids song called Skólarapp. He then went on to perform in a couple of plays, including performing Bugsy in Bugsy Malone when he was 14. He went to a college that puts on a musical production each year and starred in the lead role each year.
He then went on to study at the prestigious Juilliard School in New York on full scholarships. He has now moved back to Iceland but is also based in LA and he is without a doubt one of Iceland’s brightest stars. His stage name outside Iceland is Thor Kristjansson, look out for him!
Here’s the trailer for his newest film, Life in a Fishbowl, or Vonarstræti in Icelandic (a massive hit in Icelandic cinemas). Do you see a bit of a resemblance to Wolf of Wall Street?
So, he’s got the looks, he’s got a lot of talent and on top of that, he’s actually a really sweet and nice guy that’s very down to earth. Absolute heartthrob!

2. Unnsteinn Manuel Stefánsson
Unnsteinn is the youngest guy on this list. He’s the lead singer and guitarist for Retro Stefson, a fun pop group that’s very popular in Iceland. The group is very energetic and they just emit happiness whenever and wherever they perform. They became a hit in Iceland when all the band members were in their early teens but have now established themselves as one of Iceland’s most popular bands.
Unnsteinn is upbeat and fun – but also very cool and ‘in’. His background is Icelandic/Portuguese/Angolan so he's had a very multinational upbringing that shows in his musical style. Besides winning me over with his energy and zest for life, he tops it off with an adorable tooth-gap smile.

1. Páll Óskar
*I said I’d almost completely replaced people from last year’s list. Now, I couldn’t replace Páll Óskar. Nobody can. Páll Óskar will always be no. 1 on my list of sexiest men in Iceland. (Apologies to my manfriend). This incredible man can’t really be described in just a few sentences. I don’t know a single person that doesn’t love Páll Óskar. He’s smart, funny, fair, an incredible all-round entertainer and always so positive. He’s Iceland’s Disco King, a singer, actor, performer, radio host and just by being awesome he’s the best gay rights activist I can think of. He’s also very honest and polite in every interview he gives and he gives his fans a lot of time. An incredible role model that promotes love and equality for everyone. Páll Óskar, you’re gorgeous and I love you.
