With an expert guide, pre-planned itinerary, and top-rated activities included, this summer tour in Iceland offers an unforgettable adventure for travelers looking to see the country’s most popular attractions.

Summer is the ideal time to explore Iceland, with long daylight hours, mild weather, and easy access to even the most remote sights. You'll have more time to take in the scenery, spot wildlife like puffins and seals, and experience everything from lush green landscapes to glacier lagoons.

Your 3-day tour in Iceland begins with a convenient pickup from your hotel or nearby areas in Reykjavik. From there, you’ll set off on a scenic journey in a comfortable, Wi-Fi-equipped vehicle with your local guide.

Experience a carefully crafted 3-day Iceland itinerary designed with expert local insight. You’ll journey through Iceland’s most iconic regions, including the Golden Circle, the stunning South Coast, and Vatnajokull National Park. Over three adventure-filled days, you’ll explore dramatic landscapes, discover hidden gems, and enjoy the very best of Iceland’s natural wonders.

By reserving this tour, your 3 days in Iceland will be fully organized. You’ll stay in handpicked hotels rated at least three stars, with private rooms, en suite bathrooms, free Wi-Fi, and daily breakfast included.

At the Golden Circle, you’ll explore Iceland’s most popular attractions. Walk between tectonic plates at Thingvellir National Park, watch explosive hot springs of the Geysir Geothermal Area, and witness the thundering power of Gullfoss Waterfall.

Unlike typical Golden Circle tours, this trip offers additional stops beyond the usual routes. You’ll visit the Kerid Crater, a lesser-known gem that many travelers miss.

Along the South Coast, you’ll have two days to soak in the dramatic scenery. While some travelers pack as much of this route into a single day as they can, taking two allows you enough time to enjoy every attraction.

From the powerful waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss to the striking Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach and the winding Fjadrargljufur Canyon, every stop of this summer tour in Iceland is unforgettable. You’ll explore the peaceful trails of Skaftafell Nature Reserve and visit the unforgettable Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, where towering icebergs drift across a serene lake.

While on the South Coast, you will embark on two top-rated activities in Iceland, seamlessly built into the itinerary to save you time and money. You’ll join a guided glacier hike on Solheimajokull, an outlet of the mighty Myrdalsjokull Ice Cap. With all safety gear provided, your guide will lead you across ancient ice formations, offering unforgettable views into the glacier’s icy landscape.

At Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, you’ll board an amphibian boat to cruise among massive floating icebergs. This up-close experience brings you right into the heart of one of Iceland’s most magical natural wonders.

Please note that only one carry-on-sized bag is permitted per guest, but additional luggage can be stored in Reykjavik for a small fee.

Daily itinerary

Day 1

Day 1 - Golden Circle

On the first day of your 3-day tour in Iceland, your guide will pick you up at your accommodation in Reykjavik and drive you out of the city. Get to know each other as you travel through stunning landscapes to the Golden Circle, Iceland’s most popular sightseeing route.

Your first stop is Thingvellir National Park, the only UNESCO World Heritage Site on the Icelandic mainland. Walk between two tectonic plates in a dramatic rift valley, surrounded by crystal-clear springs, lava rock, and Iceland’s largest natural lake. In summer, the trails are fully accessible, and the lush greenery brings out the textures of the volcanic terrain.

Beyond the scenery, Thingvellir is also the original site of Iceland's ongoing parliament, founded over a thousand years ago.

After enjoying Thingvellir, your guide will drive you further inland to the Geysir Geothermal Area. Here you find steaming vents, bubbling hot springs, and two famous geysers in Iceland. While the original Great Geysir rarely erupts, nearby Strokkur sends hot water high into the air every five to ten minutes. Watching it erupt is one of the highlights of the Golden Circle tour.

A short drive away is Gullfoss Waterfall, one of Iceland’s most photographed sights. Fed by the meltwater of Langjokull Glacier, it plunges in two powerful tiers into a deep canyon. In summer, rainbows often appear in the mist, and the spray might leave you a little wet as you explore the viewing platforms.

While most Golden Circle tours end in Gullfoss, you will continue onto Kerid Crater. You can walk around the red slopes of this volcanic caldera and, if conditions allow, head down to the edge of the bright blue lake at its center. It’s a quieter, lesser-known highlight of the Golden Circle.

After a full day of exploring, your guide drives you to your accommodation in Reykjavik or at a countryside hotel near the Golden Circle.

Day 2

Day 2 - South Coast

On the second day of your 3-day trip in Iceland, get ready for a journey packed South Coast tour with some of the country’s most dramatic natural sights.

After breakfast at your hotel, your guide will take you to the stunning South Coast. This region is packed with natural wonders, and summer makes it easy to reach some of its most scenic spots. You’ll journey through gorgeous landscapes, including black sand beaches, lava fields, and geothermal areas.

Your adventure begins at Seljalandsfoss, a tall and narrow waterfall plunging 197 feet (60 meters) from a rocky cliff. In summer, you can walk behind the cascade for a rare and magical view from inside the cliff.

Just a short walk away is Gljufrabui, a hidden waterfall tucked behind a cliff. You reach it by passing through a shallow stream, only accessible in summer. It’s an otherworldly spot that many travelers miss.

Continue your South Coast tour in Skogafoss, one of Iceland’s most powerful waterfalls. Wider than Seljalandsfoss, its crashing curtain of water sends mist high into the air. Climb the staircase to the top for sweeping views of the river and cliffs, or stay below to feel its raw power. Legend says a Viking treasure lies hidden behind the falls, adding mystery to this dramatic stop.

After enjoying these South Coast waterfalls, you will head to Solheimajokull for an exciting glacier hike. Your guide will equip you with all the safety equipment necessary and lead you onto the icy slopes. You’ll hike across the icy terrain, navigating crevasses, ice ridges, and surreal blue formations.

Glacier hiking in Solheimajokull is popular in Iceland because of how breathtaking the ice caps are, with unique formations, otherworldly terrain, and stunning views. The glacier’s raw beauty makes it a highlight of any South Coast itinerary.

After the Solheimajokull glacier hike, you'll head to Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach. Here, you can marvel over volcanic ash, massive waves, and the impressive Reynisdrangar Sea Stacks. According to local legends, these geological structures are said to be frozen trolls turned to stone by the sun's light.

Your final stop for today is Skaftafell Nature Reserve, where you’ll find glacier tongues spilling from the mountains and lava fields. Depending on your lodging location, your route may also include the optional Bridge of the Volcanoes, a remnant of a bridge destroyed by a volcanic eruption. If not today, it may be added to Day 3 for a smoother travel experience.

After a day filled with unforgettable sights, you’ll settle in at a South Coast hotel, ready for another day of adventure ahead.

Day 3

Day 3 - Skaftafell and Jokulsarlon

Day 3 of your Iceland tour begins with a hearty breakfast at your hotel before you continue your adventure along the breathtaking South Coast. Your guide will take you to two of the most memorable destinations in Iceland: the Skaftafell Nature Reserve and the Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon.

If you haven’t explored Skaftafell yet, today’s journey will begin there, giving you plenty of time to enjoy its glacier views and diverse landscapes.

Both locations are part of the Vatnajokull National Park, the largest national park in Iceland and home to the biggest glacier in Europe. In summer, the roads and trails are clear, making it the ideal season to explore this spectacular region shaped by ice and volcanic activity.

Your guide will bring you to gorgeous spots and tailor the experience to your group. You can take some incredible trails through the dramatic landscapes if you like to hike. Photographers can head to the best vantage points for some fantastic shots.

After exploring Skaftafell, you’ll continue to Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, one of the most popular attractions in Iceland. Here, towering icebergs float across a blue lake, slowly breaking off from the nearby Breidamerkurjokull Glacier. Each iceberg is uniquely shaped, with deep blue hues, white ridges, and streaks of volcanic ash from past volcanic eruptions.

For a closer look, hop on a guided amphibian boat tour through Jokulsarlon. Cruising among the icebergs gives you a true sense of their massive scale from the water.

The lagoon is also a great place to watch wildlife. You might see seals gliding through the waters or lounging on ice. In summer, Arctic terns and other seabirds nest in the area, so be sure to admire them from a respectful distance to help protect their nesting grounds.

Just across the road, you’ll head to the Diamond Beach, an unforgettable stretch of black sand where glistening icebergs wash ashore. Carried out to sea, these crystal-like chunks return with the tide, scattered along the beach like jewels. You’ll have time to walk along the shore, take photos, and enjoy this otherworldly scene.

If time allows, you’ll stop at Fjadrargljufur Canyon. This picturesque serpent-shaped canyon was made famous by Justin Bieber’s “I’ll Show You” music video and is now a favorite stop for many travelers. With its moss-covered walls and winding river, it offers a glimpse into Iceland's raw landscape.

After your visit, your guide drives you back to Reykjavik. As you make your way to the city, you’ll pass through Vik, and time permitting, take a stop to explore a little more.
