Hurry now and book your place on this exciting day-tour to Iceland's only UNESCO World Heritage site, Þingvellir National Park. This tour is perfect for those travellers looking to experience one of the most unique and well-visited spots in Iceland.

You will be driven from Iceland's capital, Reykjavík, to Þingvellir National Park, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Iceland. In Þingvellir, you will explore the park's attractions for one and a half hours, observing all the remarkable insights into the area's relevance in Icelandic history.

Þingvellir literally means ‘‘Fields of the Parliament"; you can see the remains of the old Icelandic parliament, the Alþingi, which was founded in the year 930 AD and held its sessions until 1798. The assembly site was the area including the Law Rock (Lögberg) and the Law Council, where the Alþing performed its duties of legislation and conviction. The Alþingi now resides in downtown Reykjavík.

The park also holds geological significance. Þingvellir is positioned on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, meaning the area is susceptible to the shifting tectonic plates of Europe and North-America, opening large holes and cracks in the earth's crust. Þingvellir is one of the only locations on earth where it is possible to see the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates standing exposed above the surface.

Icelanders worshipped the pagan gods, Æsir, of the Norse pantheon, at Þingvellir, as chieftains often served as high priests, until the year 1000 when King Olaf of Norway lead a religious war on behalf of Christianity.

For some time the nation was split in battle until, one day, law speaker and chieftain, Þorgeir Ljósvetningagoði, was to decide which religion Iceland was to follow. After a couple of days of thinking, he declared Iceland Christian—with the addition that all pagan customs could be followed as long as they were kept out of the public light.

The park is very green and beautiful during the summer. It contains Iceland's largest lake and arguably the most beautiful, Þingvellavatn. Also, Öxará river runs through Þingvellir, known for its crystal clear and light blue water that feeds the waterfall Öxarárfoss.

So what's the delay? Hurry now and secure your place on this gorgeous day tour to Þingvellir National park, Iceland's only UNESCO World Heritage Site. Check availability by choosing a date.
