Whale watch from the ‘capital of the North’, Akureyri, and witness the unbelievable wealth of marine life in Eyjafjörður (Island fjord). No one who loves nature and wildlife, planning to travel to Iceland’s North, should give this tour a miss!

The excursion departs from Akureyri’s floating pier, which you can arrange a drop-off to, but walking is relatively easy due to closeness to town. Here, you will board your high-speed vessel, a sleek ship with a large indoor area, outdoor viewing platforms, a bar and a room of overalls you can borrow to keep warm in.

As soon as the departure time arrives, you will set off into the fjord in search for wildlife. Watching the beautiful town of Akureyri shrink behind you, and the amazing mountains of Tröllaskagi (Troll peninsula) loom over you, is a lovely way to start the tour. You will continue sailing until you reach the feeding grounds of the whales.

Humpback whales are the most common species sighted in the North of Iceland, especially during the summer months although they are also seen in winter. These gregarious acrobats are well-known surface performers, entertaining guests by breaching, fluke diving and feeding.

You also have the chance to see white-beaked dolphins in abundance throughout the year, as well as harbour porpoises and even seals. Other species previously reported in the fjord are the Blue whale, Orcas and Fin whales, although they are not a permanent resident in the area and quite a rare sighting on our tours.

If taking the tour in summer, you may get so lucky to see Puffins that reside in Iceland to breed during the summertime as well as countless other seabirds. While this species in particular is gone come winter, many others remain. The surroundings are as beautiful in either season, although the landscapes when covered in snow are particularly mesmerising.

For three hours, you will sail into the longest glacial fjord in all of Iceland on our comfortable and specially modified catamaran, hopefully catching sighting after sighting. It would be very unusual not to see a single whale, dolphin or porpoise on your trip, as our sighting success over the past couple of summers is 100%, but if that is indeed the case, you will be able to join another tour free of charge.

And of course, if the tour is cancelled due to weather, you’ll be able to get on the next trip that fits into your schedule.

See the whales of North Iceland during an unforgettable experience. Check availability by choosing a date.

My husband and I went whale watching as part of our honeymoon. It was the most amazing experience! The fjord was gorgeous and we saw both humpback and minke whales. Don't forget to warm up with some Whale Punch at then end!

This was a fantastic whale watching trip! Myself and my partner travelled up to Akureyri as they had the promise that if you did not see a whale they would book you in another trip for free and the success rate for seeing a whale is so high. The crew were friendly and the marine biologist guiding the tour was very enthusiastic and made it all the more exciting. We saw a humpback whale who had not been named yet (my boyfriend wanted to suggest Whaley McWhale Face but I wasn’t quite sure about that one) feeding around the harbour not even 10 minutes after the tour started. It even swam under the boat at one point! Magical experience that meant the world to us. Definitely suggest warm clothing with some base layers and sturdy footwear with cosy warm socks. They provide overalls as well if you are getting too cold or just want to make it that bit special! All in all this is a wonderful and well organised tour which was easy to book and handled well throughout. You would not regret booking with this company!

We had a great experience! The biologist who was guiding our excursion was informative, pleasant, and responsive to all of our questions. We saw the whales several times during our excursion. We had our dates wrong and accidentally showed up a day early, but there was room on the boat, so they swapped out our tickets, which was so helpful for our schedule! The coveralls helped us stay warm, but I would still recommend cozy clothes under them. The smaller boat tours were getting closer to the humpbacks, but we still had great viewing. The one complaint I had is that every time a whale would be spotted off to one side of the boat or the other, the boat would turn and head straight toward it, leaving short little me with little opportunity to push my way in amongst the other passengers for front-row viewing. If you are short, get to the bow of the boat at the beginning and stay there, or be prepared to get a little bit pushy.

First of all, the guide, a marine biologist, was very informative and she was able to answer all my questions, i was there to learn about the whales, not only to see them. Secondly, its important to know that the rate of succes of spotting marine wildlife does NOT depend on the company or the guides, but entirely on your luck. This being said, Husavik is a more suitable place in terms of both biodiversity and abundance of wildlife then Akureyri, but the latter is more easily reachable. Personally, i loved it. We saw a lot of humpbacks and even a group of rare buttlenose whales , which for a first experience its more then ok, but for someone interested in more than that, i would recommend booking a more complete tour fro. Husavik. Thanks for the wonderful experience!

Humpbacks Whale 座頭鯨 is amazing and finally saw it‘s tail before return of the journey. Although it was raining and chill, its worth to be there.

It was amazing! We saw about 6 humpbacks or more and the weather was just fantastic. But like other people say, it's better to go with a smaller boat, because the whales are getting really close to the boats and it must be a lot better to see them this way. For us it was still a great experience :)

Great experience! We saw over 20 whales in Eyjafjord - they were swimming to us from all directions. Shame our boat was rather big, otherwise the whales would have gotten even closer. I've been whale watching in many places including Antarctica, Svalbard and Alaska and this was one of the best I've had.
