Description

Enjoy the vibrant culture and breathtaking sights of the North Iceland coastline in this small-group tour from Akureyri. For travelers who want to dive into Iceland’s unique culture, this is an excellent opportunity to experience coastal life amongst the scenic fjords and villages of North Iceland.

Your five-hour journey starts in Akureyri, where your guide will pick you up from your accommodation. You may also select the Akureyri airport and port as your pickup points if you’re coming from these locations. From there, your small group will visit some of the most stunning locales in Iceland on board a cozy vehicle.

To help make your sightseeing tour convenient and comfortable, bring warm clothing with extra layers and walking shoes or boots. The weather in Iceland is cold and can be unpredictable as it’s near the Arctic.

En route to your first stop for the day at Hjalteyri village, you’ll travel through the beautiful sceneries along one of the longest fjords in Iceland, Eyjafjordur. Trollaskagi, also known as the Troll Peninsula, has some of the tallest mountains in the land of fire and ice, with one peaking at 4921 feet (1500 meters).

Once you reach the herring village of Hjalteyri, you’ll hear from locals about the daily life and legends of the North Iceland coastline. You’ll learn about the Icelandic fishing culture by interacting with the fishermen and exploring the beautiful area.

Next to see is the charming Dalvik village, a staple in the local fishing economy of Iceland’s coastline. At the port, you’ll have the chance to take some stunning photos featuring the icy mountain peaks in the background and the Arctic coastline surrounding the harbor. Near Dalvik, your group will have a chance to walk on the black sands of Olafsfjordur beach.

Leaving Dalvik and the beach, the group will move to the beautiful town of Siglufjordur. Siglufjordur is the northernmost town in mainland Iceland and the filming location of the mystery drama TV series “Trapped.”

If you’re taking this tour in the summer, you’ll have the chance to visit the award-winning herring museum in Siglufjordur village, the largest maritime museum in Iceland. The Herring museum has five exhibiting buildings featuring displays on the process of fish salting and fish festivals that the country has held in the past and present.

Finally, to cap off an unforgettable small-group cultural tour in North Iceland, your guide will take you to the Kaldi Microbrewery for some beer tasting experience. As the first microbrewery in Iceland, Kaldi has one of the best preservative-free Icelandic beers.

After experiencing the fantastic culture and sights of the North Iceland tour, your small group will make its way back to Akureyri and return to the hotel or airport where you began your journey.
