Embark on an incredible and affordable whale watching excursion from Reykjavik. This ocean adventure grants you a fantastic opportunity to see a wealth of marine and bird life, without taking considerable time away from your holiday.

The vessel you will be travelling in is perfect for spotting whales. It has three separate viewing platforms as well as an indoor saloon equipped with a café, so you can enjoy a hot drink or light refreshments throughout the journey.

You can organize a pick-up from your accommodation or designated bus stop if staying in Reykjavik City center for a small cost, or else meet at the departure point most convenient to you: from Reykjavik Old Harbour.

Once everyone has boarded, you will head straight out into Faxaflói bay, where the creatures of the deep are waiting. En route, in clear weather, you will get some fantastic views of the nature surrounding Reykjavik—the sight of the whole Reykjanes and Snæfellsnes peninsulas are stunning to behold.

Summer is the peak season for whale-watching, as it is the prime feeding time for the whales and migratory seabirds such as puffins can be seen. That being said, the winter months still regularly yield excellent results; just expect to see less bird-life.

The four main species you will be searching for are the Minke Whale, the Humpback Whale, the white-beaked dolphin and the harbour porpoise; each of these creatures is unique and fascinating. That is not to say these are the only creatures you may see, however; Fin Whales, Killer Whales (or orcas), Pilot Whales and even Basking Sharks are known visitors in Faxaflói Bay.

You will spend two to three and a half hours on the water, searching for and marvelling over the marine life. Your experienced guide can answer any questions you may have; and will tell you about each creature as you see it.

If the weather means this tour is cancelled, you are welcome to join tour some onther day or get a full refund if you did not join this tour before or if you are very unlucky and there are no sightings, you get to go again, free of charge, until you see a marine mammal.

Lucky with the weather, sunny and partly cloudy, we enjoyed an amazing Monday trip to see the whales near Reykjavik (which we actually did not see as it was not the best time to watch them - end of October; those at the rear of the boat were more lucky, seeing a minke whale poping out of the water before it dived) - however, for us, the landsmen, it was still an adventure sailing against the waves, rocking up and down (no puking at all! :) and we were rewarded by a pod of dolphins swimming and jumping in front/under/around the boat! Throughout the trip, we were cared for greatly by the crew and everything was just perfect!

A lot of fun on the sea! They were extremely accommodating, made sure everyone was safe and taken care of (sea sickness, warm, as dry as we could be, etc.) and were excellent at not only spotting sea life, but also safely following it so we could observe.

Trip was cold but fantastic! Our guide was very informative and excellent at spotting the blow of the whales! He answered all my questions and knew a lot about all kinds of marine life! The boat ride was smooth and they did a great job maneuvering towards the whales. The use of free warm one piece suits was wonderful and necessary! Would definitely recommend this company!

Excellent guides. Lead guide was very informative and funny. Views were fantastic. Unfortunately, did not see any cetaceans on the day. Vessel was clean and roomy.

It was WONDERFUL! I love boats and being on the water anyway, but taking a trip in the winter, into their bays and fjords was incredible. Lots of birds, gorgeous scenery, and we saw a humpback whale! I really like their guarantee, if you don't see any marine mammals, you can re-book. This might not be a practical consideration depending on the length of your stay. We found the crew fun and engaging while being professional. They took safety seriously, and we were well provided for by way of overalls (optional) to help keep us warm. The concessions were plentiful and reasonably priced. It was a bit icy and slippery getting on to the boat, so if you go in winter, DON'T RUSH! Give yourself plenty of time to get there, and watch your footing :)

Amazing! The bus picked me up right on time, the coveralls they had were amazing to keep warm, and the crew was very friendly! We saw one humpback for only a minute and a pod of orcas. That was so unexpected and rare for this time of year!
