This tour begins when you meet your guide at the charming hamlet on Reykjahlíð on the shores of Lake Mývatn; you can opt for pick-up to take you here if you don't have a car. Here, you’ll be provided with a bike and helmet, before you and your group set off together around this beautiful region.

Mývatn is a wonderland of different sites. Its lakes are pregnant with a wealth of birdlife, particularly in summer, and the flora is unique and fascinating. It is best known, however, for its geothermal and geological features.

You will, for example, head into the dramatic lava fortress of Dimmuborgir, which conceals the serene and secretive Grjótagjá hot spring cave within its depths; both of these sites are so beautiful that they were used in HBO’s Game of Thrones series. You will also head to a local restaurant to see food being cooked simply by being buried in the hot earth.

As you ride, you can expect to see basalt pillars rising from the waters; pseudo-craters lining the shores; lava fields leading to dramatic volcanoes and mountains; and columns of steam rising from geothermal hot spots.

You’ll finish your journey at the Mývatn Nature Baths; entry is included in the price of this tour. This serene set of pools is in a beautiful location, heated by the forces of the earth, and is the perfect place to unwind after a day of adventure. If you forget your swimming kit, you can rent one on site.

After a wonderful, revitalising dip, you’ll ride back to your starting point to return your equipment and continue enjoying the north.
