Description

Hop aboard a helicopter tour to a unique ice cave in Iceland.

This bestselling tour takes you by helicopter into a unique natural ice cave in Vatnajökull, Europe's biggest glacier. There you will find yourself spellbound by crystal blue colours of ice which you need to see to believe. This ice cave can only be accessed by helicopter, and its spaciousness and beauty make it a real gem in Iceland's glacial landscape.

Upon arrival at Skaftafell Terminal, you will be greeted by our friendly staff who will provide a short introduction before you board the helicopter along with our pilot and a certified glacier guide from our trusted partner.

The helicopter then flies over glacial terrain where you get to view the ice cap from the air and challenge yourself to count all of its cracks and fissures. Along the way, you will see Skaftafellsjökull and Skeiðarárjökull, parts of Vatnajökull glacier. Vatnajökull National Park has been granted UNESCO World Heritage Site status due to a variety of genuinely unique geological features which require special attention to preserve and protect.

The helicopter will land at Skeiðarárjökull, an outlet glacier of Vatnajökull, where the cave is located. Step out of the helicopter and enter the cave through its wide openings. The cave itself is spacious, and there is plenty of room inside to walk around under the guidance of your expert guide. The colours you will see are out of this world; deep crystal blue tones which shimmer and glisten upon the scale-like patterns of the ice.

After you have witnessed the impressive colours of this remote ice cave, step back out of this magical cave, where the helicopter awaits. Ride back to the base and enjoy the views of the glacier from above. Small groups - free from crowds.

From time to time the ice caves change. They can even change within the season. For this reason it´s good not to expect to see them exactly as they are on the pictures. Many circumstances can be different, like for example the weather, the light or their size, which can change the whole picture. They are always beautiful and unique just the way they are! Helicopter landings are only done when deemed safe by our pilots.
