Join this tour to explore the Borgarfjordur area in-depth with a knowledgable and experienced guide.
In Borgarfjordur you will be surrounded by beautiful nature and great history. Waterfalls, hot springs and history (at the Snorrastofa museum) are what you can expect to explore on this trip.
On the way to Borgarfjordur, you will enjoy a journey around the countryside. You will be passing farms, agricultural livestock and will most likely see the Icelandic horse on the way.
First, you will head towards Hraunfossar, a beautiful waterfall made of subterranean water flowing out of the lava as many tiny waterfalls in the Hvita river.
We can also see Barnafoss (Children's Waterfall) nearby. The sign there indicates that it got this name because two children had fallen into the river and drowned a long time ago.
From there, you will continue to the most powerful hot spring named Deildartunguhver. It has the highest flow rate of any hot spring in Europe (180L per sec and the water is about about 97°celsius).
If you like, your guide can make a stop at the geothermal baths at Krauma Spa. Krauma offers relaxing natural geothermal baths, a cold tub, saunas and a relaxation room where you can rest by the fireplace.
Head onwards to Snorrastofa museum in Reykholt there you will view the exhibit of Snorri's writings as well as seeing the modern church and Snorralaug, which is the oldest man-made construction and is protected by the National Museum.
On the way back, you will stop at the Landnamssetrid, The Settlement Center, in Borgarnes. The Settlement Center recreates the earliest days in Iceland. There you will learn about one of the best-known heroes of the Icelandic Sagas, Egill Skalla-Grimsson. Egill was at once a Viking and a farmer. He was also a remarkable poet and wrote his first poem at just three years old. Egill was a fierce fighter, and he killed his first-person at only six or seven years old.
There is also a cosy little restaurant where you could enjoy a nice cup of coffee and take a stroll around the souvenir shop.
Your guide is keen to ensure you can see all that you want to see in Borgarfjordur. Your guide is happy to offer extra stops or alter plans to suit your wishes.
