Explore the history, nature, and folklore of the greater Reykjavik area on this evening tour by minivan.
Your guide takes you to a Viking Age longhouse that was excavated after 1,000 years in the ground, and through lava and moss fields, with short, easy walks at the sites you visit.
You also visit Bessastadir, the residence of the President of Iceland, and Bessastadir Church, built in 1773. Nearby Bessastadatjorn Pond is known for its variety of birds, and the Alftanes Peninsula has a natural shoreline, cultural remains, and livestock farming in the middle of an urban area.
Then you continue to Hafnarfjordur, an old fishing town built in the middle of a lava field and known as the town of elves and hidden people, with rocks said to be their homes. Along the way, you make a traditional ice cream or beer stop.
On bright summer evenings, you may see the colorful evening sun, and even the midnight sun, appear on the horizon behind the mountains around Reykjavik from a good lookout spot.
