Description

Experience the wonders of one of Iceland's most famous and picturesque tourist routes in this exciting eight-hour Golden Circle tour from Reykjavik. This enriching tour is perfect for small families or a group of friends numbering not more than six people who wish to see some of Iceland’s precious attractions and interesting cultural destinations.

You’ll first meet with your friendly guide for the day when he picks you up from your Reykjavik hotel. You’ll then ride a minivan that comfortably fits up to six visitors, excluding the driver.

Your first stop for the day is the historic Thingvellir National Park. It holds a unique place in the hearts of Icelanders as it was the site of the world's first parliament, the Althingi, established in 930 AD, making it one of the world's oldest functioning parliaments.

Aside from its historical significance, the Thingvellir National Park is also a place of extraordinary natural beauty and geological wonder. Hailed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the park sits within the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. The ridge is where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates slowly drift apart, causing visible cracks, fissures, and faults in the landscape.

The Silfra Fissure, within the park, offers a unique opportunity for snorkelers and divers to explore the crystal-clear waters between these two tectonic plates. Check out Thingvellir’s stunning natural scenery featuring lava fields, lakes, and rugged cliffs.

In addition, you’ll walk toward the Oxararfoss waterfall, which has a surrounding landscape of lush greenery, rugged lava rock formations, and the dramatic Almannagja gorge for its backdrop.

Next, you’ll head to the Efstidalur dairy farm to taste arguably Iceland’s best ice cream. The Efstidalur dairy farm started its operations way back in 1750. However, they only started making authentic Icelandic ice cream in 2013.

The Efstidalur dairy farm uses fresh, high-quality milk produced on-site. You can indulge in various flavors while enjoying panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and seeing the cows where the milk came from.

For lunch, you’ll head to Fridheimar, a famous tomato farm and restaurant in Reykholt. Fridheimar offers a unique food experience that revolves around cultivating tomatoes in an unexpected Icelandic setting.

Unsurprisingly, they use their home-grown fresh tomatoes in their main dishes. Moreover, they have homemade bread that’s become a favorite of visitors.

After a delicious lunch, your guide will take you to the Haukadalur valley, where you’ll find the Great Geysir and Strokkur. The Great Geysir, often called "Geysir," is one of Iceland's most iconic and historically significant geothermal features. Geysir's eruptions, although infrequent in recent years, can be incredibly powerful, sending scalding water and steam into the air in a dramatic display of natural force.

However, the nearby Strokkur geyser has taken over as the star attraction in Haukadalur. Strokkur is known for its predictable eruptions, which occur roughly every 10 minutes, shooting water up to 98 feet (30 meters) into the air.

Aside from the Great Geysir and Strokkur, you’ll find bubbling mud pots, fumaroles, and other geothermal features, creating a surreal and captivating landscape.

After enjoying the sights and sounds of Haukadalur valley, the guide will take you to Gullfoss waterfall, the tour’s final stop. Often referred to as the "Golden Waterfall," Gullfoss is one of Iceland's most breathtaking natural wonders, renowned for its awe-inspiring beauty and raw power.

Gullfoss waterfall consists of two cascades, creating a dramatic 105-foot (32-meter) drop into a narrow, rugged canyon. What makes Gullfoss even more spectacular is its sheer volume and the fact that the Hvita river seems to disappear into the crevice, creating a mesmerizing illusion. On sunny days, the spray from the waterfall often catches the sunlight, producing a shimmering golden hue, hence its name.

After an enriching day visiting some of Iceland’s most famous and fascinating sites, your guide will drive you back home to your Reykjavik accommodation.

Don’t miss this chance to explore one of Iceland’s most fascinating routes and its different attractions in this eight-hour extra-small group Golden Circle tour from Reykjavik. Check availability now by choosing a date.
