Exciting 9-Hour Golden Circle Tour from Reykjavik with Hot Springs
Description
Summary
Description
Experience some of Iceland's best natural spots by taking the exciting Golden Circle tour. This nine-hour guided tour also includes stops at hot springs that refresh your mind and body.
The Golden Circle is Iceland's most famous route measuring 190 miles (300 kilometers) long. It also leads to the country's most popular natural attractions: the Thingvellir National Park, the Gullfoss waterfall, and the Geysir hot spring area.
The tour begins when an experienced driver-guide picks you up with a minibus from a meeting point near your Reykjavik hotel. You'll then head on to your first stop, Kerid Crater. This vast crater features red rock complemented by an azure lake at the center.
Interestingly, people also call the lake "The Eye of The World" because of its shape, which resembles the human eye. Kerid Crater allows visitors to walk around its rim. You can also get close to its beautiful waters.
Next, the friendly guide will take you to the Gullfoss, arguably Iceland's most famous waterfall. Gullfoss, or the "Golden Waterfall," is a two-tiered waterfall that showcases nature's breathtaking beauty and raw power. Its waters fall 90 feet (30 meters) until it reaches a deep canyon.
Make sure to take many photos of Gullfoss, as it's one of the most photo-worthy spots in Iceland. Also, wait for the sun's rays to hit the Gullfoss' rising spray to see a beautiful rainbow effect.
The next stop is the Geysir Hot Spring Area. The area's main attraction is Strokkur, an active geyser that explodes every five to 10 minutes. You may see its explosions reaching as high as 115 feet (35 meters).
You'll also see many other hot springs and the Great Geysir, which is currently inactive.
The sightseeing continues with a stop at the Thingvellir National Park. The park is full of fascinating sights and outdoor activities that made it a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004.
Here, you can enjoy the picturesque views and the tectonic plates the park is known for. Thingvellir sits in a valley between the North American and Eurasian continents, the edges of which are both visible.
Before heading to the hot springs, the tour will take you to Thorufoss Waterfall. It measures about 60 feet (18 meters) in height and almost 98 feet (30 meters) in width.
The landscape surrounding Thorufoss Waterfall changes depending on the season. During winter, frozen parts of the waterfall are visible. In addition, Thorufoss was one of the filming locations of the "Game of Thrones" TV series.
The tour's final activity is relaxing at the Hvammsvik Nature Resort & Hot Springs. Sit in one of the resort's eight natural hot springs with temperatures between 10°C to 42°C.
As you relax your tired muscles, you can marvel at the beauty of the mountains and black beaches around you. After an energizing hot springs experience, the driver will safely take you back to the initial meeting point near your hotel in Reykjavik.
