You drive through the farmland of South Iceland with views of Mount Hekla, a volcano once known in medieval lore as the "Gateway to Hell."
Your first stop is the Hekla viewpoint, near the lava field from the eruption in 2000, where you learn about the volcano's history and eruptions.
Next is Sigoldufoss Waterfall, where glacier-fed water drops over basalt cliffs.
Then you reach Landmannalaugar, with its colorful rhyolite mountains, black lava fields, and geothermal hot springs. You can take a short hike or bathe in the natural hot spring.
The tour continues to Ljotipollur Crater Lake, an explosion crater with red and green slopes, and then to Frostastadavatn Lake, a highland lake surrounded by volcanic formations.
