For example, you could hop off at stop 2 for the chance to partake in some whale watching. Spot minke and humpback whales, porpoises and even dolphins! Don't forget to look out for feathered friends, wheeling high over the waves and nesting on the craggy cliffs. You may see many bird species, such as gulls, geese, and the adorable puffins.

You could also choose to stop at Whales of Iceland, one of the country's newer museums, featuring 23 life-sized models, an interactive installation and a virtual reality experience.

And no sightseeing tour of the capital is complete without a visit to Hallgrímskirkja, the city's famed church. You will note the distinctive architecture, inspired by the basalt cliffs found on Iceland's southern coast, as well as a statue dedicated to national hero, Leifur Eriksson. You will even have the chance to go to the top of the soaring bell tower where you can view the entire city.

Since Reykjavik is not big, you can pass by all sightseeing places at around 60 minutes. You could first take the bus for a complete round then you can choose to hop off the places you would like to visit. Even though the bus does not come exactly every 30 minutes, but it it's within 10 minutes extra waiting time only due to construction around the city centre. I enjoyed it.

We went on the bus at Hallgrimachurch and since we also had rented a car, we sat on the bus all way to see what did we want to see more of and the historie stories is great to listen to. I will say this is a must when you want to know as mush as possible without looking in all the books you find. Great tour!

My recommendation would be to ride the entire route once before hopping off. The entire tour only takes ~60 minutes. Take note, the bus only comes to each stop every 45 minutes, so be aware of the time when you exit (so you don’t miss it on upon its return). Overall, it was a great experience!

Easy to book at the Tourist Information office. Buses are supposed to run every half hour on the hour from stop 1. We were at stop three and waited 25 minutes for a bus. As the whole tour takes only an hour and there are loads of stops this seemed a long time to wait at the third stop. Also on the way back we noted that we were dropped off at 5 mins past the hour, and were at the stop on the hour. We waited until 4.30 for the bus, so where was the 4pm one? Then we found that this was the last bus and had to get off at stop 1 and walk the rest of the way. This was very expensive and there was a lot of waiting around and we didnt even get to go the whole way round. Not a good experience for us and I think not worth the money.

I have been on many hop on-hop off bus tours over the years as I find it a great way to get a feel for the city before deciding where I want to spend my time. I really dislike leaving bad reviews, but this is truly the worst tour bus tour I have ever been on. The stops at 3 of the locations were extraordinarily long, the narration was out of sync, and to be honest, the content was really boring for such a vibrant city. We hopped off before we got around the entire route and chose to explore on foot instead. I loved every other part of my visit to Iceland but this was an expensive disappointment. I normally check reviews on tours in advance, but in this case I didn’t and that is really my own fault because I can see now that many reviews have similar commentary. A few positives: bus was clean, easy to book tour and bus driver was friendly. Truly loved everything else about Iceland except for this one tour. Beautiful country.
