Description

Combine the classic Icelandic experiences of sightseeing around the Golden Circle and bathing in geothermally heated waters at the Secret Lagoon. This tour should not be missed by those seeking an authentic Icelandic adventure.

You will be picked up in Reykjavík in a minibus in the morning, and head out of town to the Golden Circle. You will visit Þingvellir, a National Park and UNESCO World Heritage Site, located directly between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates.

The continental movement means that the park is filled with lava fields and torn with ravines, making for some beautiful landscapes. As you walk through the area, you’ll no doubt be awed by the geology. The history here is also fascinating; Þingvellir was the original site of what is now the longest-running parliament ever, formed in 930 AD.

Another stop will be in the geothermal Haukadalur valley. This hilly area is dotted with hot springs and fumaroles, but what it is most renowned for is its geysers. The largest, Geysir, gave all others in the world their name, while Strokkur is very active, shooting water up into the sky every five to ten minutes.

Not far from  Geysir is located one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland - the majestic waterfall Gullfoss. The sheer power of the falls is mesmerising, and its history is inspiring; only because of the incredible endurance and energy of a 19th Century Icelandic farmer was it not turned into a hydroelectric dam. There is information on the story of this inspirational woman on the site.

On this tour, you will also get the time to slow down and relax. Thankfully, the Secret Lagoon in the village of Flúðir is located within the Golden Circle area.

The lagoon is Iceland’s oldest swimming pool, filled with water trickling in from an adjacent geothermal area, which, as an added bonus, has another geyser. Its location could not be more serene, and you will no doubt ease away any tension built up over your holiday in its healing waters.

Don’t miss out on this tour for a perfect combination of sightseeing and relaxation. Check availability by choosing a date.
