Description

Join an unforgettable whale watching tour that departs from Húsavík, the whale capital of Iceland, and embark on an adventure to witness the magnificent wildlife in Skjálfandi bay.

After you have picked up your ticket, you will be greeted by the crew that will welcome you onboard an old traditional oak boat. You will be provided with warm overalls so you won't get cold out at sea for the duration of the tour.

When everyone is ready, you'll sail out of the harbour, heading straight onto the beautiful Skjálfandi bay. Expect a three-hour whale watching tour, in which you explore the abundant wildlife of Iceland's coastline. During the tour, you'll be treated to light refreshments, a cup of hot chocolate and some cinnamon buns.

The Minke whale was the most commonly sighted whale species when whale watching tours started to run from Húsavík. Over the years, however, this has changed and now, more than 20 years later, more and more whale species are entering the bay.

Today, the Humpback whale is the most commonly spotted whale. In recent years the biggest animal on the earth, the Blue whale, has also been seen frequently. Orcas, Fin whales, Sei whales and Northern Bottlenose whales have also been spotted in Skjálfandi Bay, and it's not unlikely that you can see some White-beaked dolphins and Harbour porpoises as well. These amazing animals visit the bay to feed on the plentiful krill and plankton.

There are frequent departures, but due to great demand, it is recommended that you make reservations in advance and secure your chance of exploring the open seas and meeting the great giants of the North Atlantic! Check the booking availability by choosing a date.

Good to know

It can be cold out at sea so make sure to bring warm clothes. We want to ask that you arrive at our ticket office about half an hour prior to departure to collect your boarding pass. The ticket office is a glass building located in the center of Húsavík, opposite the church. A public parking lot is located behind the church.
