Jump aboard and explore many of Iceland's most stunning natural attractions with this immersive tour of the Snaefellsnes peninsula. Those who want to see this nation's beautiful volcanoes, glaciers, waterfalls, and coastal landscapes within a day should book this guided tour now.
You will be picked up by a minibus from Reykjavik early, meet your guide and group, and head north from the capital region. The countryside on the way to the Snaefellsnes peninsula is rural and picturesque, with many quaint towns and beautiful ocean views.
The landscapes will be much more dramatic as soon as you reach the peninsula. A range of mountains runs to the west, surrounded by a craggy coastline.
You will start by traversing the southern side, which has many natural features, including the fantastic glacier and volcano, Snaefellsjokull.
You will see the charming fishing villages of Budir and Arnarstapi, the seal-watching beach Ytri Tunga, and, most impressively, Djupalonssandur black sand beach.
Known for its striking volcanic sand and dramatic rock formations, the beach is also historically significant. The remains of a British trawler shipwreck from 1948 are scattered across the beach, adding a sad note to the area's beauty.
Visitors can also test their strength on the four traditional lifting stones, once used by local fishermen. While the beach is stunning, being cautious of the strong waves and unpredictable currents is essential, making swimming unsafe.
In full view of the mighty glacier, you will then enter the Snaefellsjokull National Park. This significant landmark has inspired artists since it was first seen.
As you move over to the northern side of the peninsula, you will see more fishing villages and have an excellent view over the largest fjord in Iceland, Breidafjordur. If you are lucky, you may see orcas in the waters as they regularly travel through this area.
Your final destination here is Mount Kirkjufell. One of Iceland's most photographed mountains, it juts out dramatically from the coast and is positioned beside the charming Kirkjufellsfoss waterfall.
Before returning to the van, you will have plenty of time to admire and photograph this charming feature.
Before taking the scenic drive back to Reykjavik, you are invited to join a traditional meal with some locals, making for the perfect way to immerse yourself in Icelandic culture.
You'll be dropped off back in Reykjavik in the evening.
