Description

Meet the beautiful horses of Laxnes Farm and take a two-hour riding tour through a beautiful valley just outside Reykjavík. This tour is perfect for all guests, combining relaxation, adventure and spectacular nature.

The excursion begins at Laxnes Farm in the valley of Mosfellsdalur; you can drive yourself or opt for a pickup from the capital for a small extra cost. This area is a beautiful oasis, with verdant mountains and fields of wildflowers in summer and stunning snowscapes throughout winter. It is also the area where the Nobel Prize winning author Halldor Laxness once lived, with his house-turned-museum nearby.

The farm itself is family owned, with the horses considered part of the family.

Icelandic horses are the pride of the nation; though smaller than other breeds around the world, they are unique in their intelligence, curiosity, friendliness and playfulness. These traits come from the fact that the first Icelanders only brought their best horses on their voyage to this newly discovered land, and they have been isolated from all others for over a millennium.

Regardless of your horse-riding experience, your friendly guides will find a mount that is perfect for you. After a short briefing in which you will be provided with all the necessary equipment, you will hop into the saddle and set out into the countryside.

No matter the season or weather, horseback riding in Iceland is a magical experience, in which you will get to enjoy raw nature with mountains towering either side of you, feeling like a Viking of old. Your pace will be gentle, although if you are more experienced and eager for a little thrill, you will get to try the unique gait of the Icelandic horse - the tölt - and a gallop through the landscapes.

After approximately two hours, you’ll return to the farm and bid farewell to your faithful steed. As this tour only takes up part of the day, you are free to fill the rest of it with more essential Icelandic experiences.

Don’t miss this adventure in Iceland’s nature aback a friendly Icelandic horse. Check availability by choosing a date.
