Marvel over the magical aurora borealis from the sea, with this Northern Lights Cruise from Reykjavík. This tour should not be missed by those seeking a unique way to enjoy Iceland’s most renowned natural phenomenon.

This tour begins at Reykjavík’s Old Harbour, where your vessel is waiting. This boat has a spacious indoor area you can stay warm in, with a bar that will provide you with a free warm drink, and offers protective overalls to further help stave off the cold. Of course, it also has outdoor decks for optimal aurora watching.

Once the captain is ready, the boat will set out into Faxaflói. The city lights will shrink behind you, but you will still be able to see the capital’s important landmarks, such as Harpa and Hallgrímskirkja. As soon as you are far enough from it, the light pollution will be so little that it will not affect your viewing experience.

All that is needed for the Northern Lights to show is a clear, dark sky, enough solar activity, and a little luck. Being in the middle of a pitch-black bay, with a dome of stars above, makes your odds of catching them much higher than if you were trying to find a spot in the city away from the lights and buildings.

Keep an eye on the sky until the auroras begin to descend; the guides on board will be doing the same, and are excellent at spotting signs of their arrival. As soon as they appear, you and your group will no doubt be mesmerised in silence, in complete awe of their unreal beauty.

After a hopefully incredible aurora show, your boat will return to Reykjavík, however if you don’t catch sight of them (which can happen due to the fickleness of nature) you need not worry as you will be able to take another cruise out for free!

Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to watch the Northern Lights at sea.

Amazing experience! Seeing the Northern Lights was (past tense) in my bucket list. Seeing them on a harbor cruise seemed extra special. We chose the cruise as they offered the option to tour again if we didn’t see the lights on the first sailing. We were amazed and overwhelmed at seeing the lights! The ship deck was large enough for everyone to enjoy the experience. The narration of the barrier islands and the city was icing on the cake. We were a party of 4 but my son took ill. He and my husband stayed back. Guide to Iceland returned the cost of 2 tickets. We’ll be back to Iceland and we’ll be taking the cruise again. Great experience! Great company!!

We were staying a a hotel near the marina so we walked over to the boat on our own to pick up our tickets and go on the tour. The boat was nice, the guide very helpful with all of us and how to get the best photos of the Northern Lights. We were lucky and saw them that night, it was amazing! They had us put on these huge warm rain/foul weather overalls which they had plenty of pairs in all different sizes and they keep us very warm. The boat had a nice girl making drinks for sale if you wanted one on the trip. I highly recommend this service.

Great tour! Although we were not able to see the lights, the crew was friendly and helpful, and we were able to come back another night to try again. Recommend booking early in your stay so you have a better chance of seeing the lights!

Iceland is absolutely incredible! Even better than I expected. The northern lights cruise was a good experience, even though we did not see the lights very clearly. However, they are kind enough to let you come back and try again. I'd recommend you do the tour early during your stay so you can try more than one. The crew is friendly and knowledgeable. Totally worth it! And by the way, they have very thick suits available in all sizes to keep you warm. It gets very cold at the top!
