Description
Look for the northern lights with a small group on this minibus tour from Reykjavik. The tour suits winter travelers who want a comfortable, personal northern lights experience.
In the evening, your minibus picks you up at a set meeting point near your accommodation in Reykjavik. You meet your guide and group before heading out into the darkening countryside around the capital.
There's no set route. Your guide uses weather apps, contacts, and local knowledge to find the best viewing spots. To see the northern lights, you need a clear sky, no light pollution, and a good forecast, so you may go to places such as the Reykjanes Peninsula, Esja Mountain, the Blafjoll Mountains, or Thingvellir National Park.
Your guide tries to find a spot away from other visitors and tells you how the northern lights form and about the landscapes you pass.
When you arrive, you step out into the dark and watch the sky. The most common color of the northern lights is green, but you may also see purple, red, blue, and other shades.
During the tour, your guide gives you hot chocolate and an Icelandic chocolate bar to help you stay warm. Your guide also offers to take free photos of you with the northern lights, which you can access after the tour.
Afterward, you return to Reykjavik.
