Description

This tour will make you feel like you're with an Icelandic friend who's picked you up in a nice car one evening, to drive you out to the perfect spot after researching the aurora-forecast, because this is our speciality. We'll give you a warm blanket and hang out while you gaze up at the magnificent northern lights. You chill out; we'll do what we do best and show you in person what Iceland does best: the aurora borealis.

The northern lights, also known as aurora borealis, appear when particles from the sun hit the upper atmosphere near the North Pole. They are, in fact, the visible ionization of electrons and protons, making them all the more magical. The northern lights are visible in Iceland simply when it’s dark enough to see them, from late August to April, and appear as waves or winds of different colours in the sky, although green and pink are most common. Each display is unique so seeing the northern lights is always a personal experience. Sometimes they will appear calm, moving slowly across the sky with a serene effect, and sometimes they appear as a full-on laser show, lighting up their dark surroundings.

The location for our tour varies every night depending on the weather and aurora forecasts to ensure the best possible conditions to experience this magnificent natural wonder. That said, the lights are a natural phenomenon and therefore beyond our control so sightings cannot be guaranteed. If the forecast is not in our favour, the tour is of course cancelled and refunded. In the unlikely event that we do not see the northern lights on our tour, you are invited to join our RE62 Northern Lights Tour for free. The maximum group size for this tour is 19 people. Please note that indicated return times may vary.
