Description

Explore Iceland's magnificent Diamond Circle sightseeing route by booking this incredible guided excursion. Those eager to discover waterfalls, national parks, and canyons should book this private tour now.

Your tour starts when your expert English-speaking guide picks you up from your accommodation in Akureyri or the Lake Myvatn area. This excursion is a private tour, so it will be just you and your party.

There is no need to wait for other guests, and the tour can be tailored to your group's needs. Depending on your interests, you can spend more or less time at each stop. You'll be able to ask your guide any questions during the tour.

Climb aboard the 4x4 vehicle and get comfortable. A 4x4 is the perfect vehicle to tackle Iceland's rugged terrain. If your pick-up point is in Akureyri, you'll drive along Eyjafjordur, the longest fjord in Iceland.

The first stop of this day's tour is Godafoss waterfall. Godafoss waterfall, located in North Iceland, is one of the country's most famous waterfalls. Its name means "Waterfall of the Gods," and it holds historical significance.

In the year 1000, when Iceland adopted Christianity, a chieftain is said to have thrown pagan idols into the falls as a symbolic act. The waterfall stands around 39 feet (12 meters) tall and 98 feet (30 meters ) wide, creating a semi-circular cascade.

Next, you'll see Lake Myvatn. Lake Myvatn is known for its unique landscapes and rich birdlife. The lake was formed by volcanic activity over 2,000 years ago, and its surroundings feature lava fields, hot springs, and volcanic craters.

You'll visit two more waterfalls today – Dettifoss and Sellfoss. Dettifoss waterfall, the more famous of the two, is known as the most powerful waterfall in Europe, with water dropping around 144 feet (44 meters) over a 328-foot (100-meter) wide edge.

Just upstream, Selfoss waterfall is a smaller but equally impressive waterfall, with a drop of around 36 feet (11 meters).

You'll also visit Vatnajokull National Park, one of the country's largest and most diverse protected areas.

It encompasses the massive Vatnajokull glacier, the largest in Europe, and offers a variety of landscapes, including glacial rivers, volcanic activity, and geothermal areas.

You'll see Jokulsargljufur canyon here, one of the country's most dramatic natural features. Carved by the Jokulsa a Fjollum river, which originates from the Vatnajokull glacier, the canyon stretches about 15 miles (25 kilometers) and reaches depths of up to 394 feet (120 meters).

You'll head to Asbyrgi canyon, a horseshoe-shaped canyon thought to have been formed by catastrophic glacial floods. It's about 2.2 miles (3.5 kilometers) long and 0.6 miles (1 kilometer) wide, with towering cliffs surrounding lush forests below.

Last on the itinerary for your trip are two sets of cliffs: the Hljodaklettar Echo cliffs with their basalt hexagons and the Tjornes peninsula cliffs, where you may see puffins in summer.

If your group wants to, you can add a trip to the GoSea Geothermal Sea Baths, an infinity pool overlooking Skjalfandi bay.

At the end of the tour, your guide will take you back to your accommodation in either Akureyri or the Lake Myvatn area.

Enjoy the spectacular sights of the Diamond Circle route on a private tour. Check availability now by choosing a date.
