You're picked up in Reykjavik and driven to the trailhead in Hvalfjordur Fjord, also known as Whale Fjord, in West Iceland.

The trail winds through grasses and Arctic flowers that bloom in the short summer, and as you get closer to the canyon, you start to hear the roar of the waterfall.

Along the way, you cross the Botnsa River on stepping stones or a log bridge, depending on the season, and some crossings mean wading through clear streams. Then you climb through a cave-like passage behind a smaller waterfall and up a steep hillside.

Finally, Glymur comes into view across the canyon, dropping 650 feet (198 meters). Your guide leads you to the best viewpoints for photos.

Water levels change through the season. Snowmelt raises the river in early summer, and the crossing is usually easier in late summer.

After the hike, you ride back to Reykjavik.
