Travel by luxury jeep to Thorsmork, one of the best-known nature areas in Iceland, on this private tour. The tour suits travelers who enjoy hiking, photography, and exploring nature.
Thorsmork Valley lies in the southern Highlands, surrounded by glaciers. Popular with hikers and nature lovers, the valley has powerful glacial rivers, green vegetation, and rocky terrain.
The tour begins with pickup from your hotel in Reykjavik in a luxury 4x4 jeep, and you drive along the South Coast of Iceland. The first stop is Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, where you can walk behind the waterfall and take photos.
Leaving the Ring Road, the tour heads toward Thorsmork, the Valley of Thor, named after the Norse god of thunder. The valley lies between three glaciers: Tindfjallajokull Glacier, Myrdalsjokull Glacier, and Eyjafjallajokull Glacier, whose volcano disrupted air traffic worldwide in 2010. The heart of the valley lies between the Krossa, Thronga, and Markarfljot rivers, with glacial rivers, bright green moss, birch forests, and black desert plains.
As you enter the valley, the tour takes you deep into Thorsmork, where you see Icelandic nature up close: rushing rivers, glacier tongues, green mountains, and caves.
The tour then takes you to Gigjokull Glacier, an outlet glacier, where you can hike up to the edge of the glacier-topped Eyjafjallajokull Volcano. Another stop is Stakkholtsgja Canyon, where you can walk into the mountainside between cliffs 328 feet (100 meters) high.
In the 4x4 jeep, you cross rivers and go deeper into Thorsmork, taking short hikes and enjoying the views of the valley.
At the end of the tour, you are driven back to your hotel in Reykjavik.
