Next, you visit Deildartunguhver Hot Spring, the highest-flow hot spring in Europe. Water bubbles up at about 48 gallons (180 liters) per second at 206 degrees Fahrenheit (97 degrees Celsius), and some of it heats homes in Borgarnes and Akranes. Look for Struthiopteris fallax, a fern that grows only in Iceland.

The tour continues to Hraunfossar Waterfalls, whose name means "lava waterfalls." Here, clear groundwater flows out from beneath the Hallmundarhraun Lava Field into the glacial Hvita River, creating a range of colors where the two meet.

Right next to it is Barnafoss Waterfall, linked to a sad folk tale about two boys who fell from a natural stone bridge above the falls.

The final stop is Reykholt, a historic village and the former home of the medieval writer Snorri Sturluson. Next to the old church, built between 1885 and 1887, you can see his ancient hot pool and the remains of a tunnel that led to his living quarters.
