Private 7 Hour Blue Lagoon & Reykjanes Peninsula Tour in a Mercedes from Reykjavik or the Airport
Description
Summary
Description
Come along on a wonderful private day's journey, driving and exploring the Reykjanes peninsula and finishing off by bathing in the geothermal waters of the Blue Lagoon. The sites we visit on Reykjanes are some of the most stunning natural phenomena in the whole of Iceland, most of them made from rather young lava.
The tour begins in Reykjavík or at the Keflavík International Airport.
After collecting you from your accommodations, our very first stop will be Kleifarvatn lake, the largest lake on the peninsula. Its southern part is warm from hot springs running into the lake but is otherwise very cold. It's a perfect place for photographing because of its volcanic surroundings and bright blue water.
Our second stop is the geothermal springs of Krýsuvík, located in the middle of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. Dramatically colored hills create a beautiful view over the volcanic vents and boiling hot springs.
Grindavík is our next stop, a somewhat isolated fishing town in a small inlet on the very southwesternmost corner of the peninsula.
Brimketill lava rock pool is next up. It's a little pool right at the edge of the land, supposedly occupied by a giantess named Oddný by folklore tales. The viewing platform above offers the possibility of getting soaked from the waves splashing against the rocks.
Next, we travel to Gunnuhver hot spring. Its boiling water and mud pools were said in earlier times to get their energy from a ghost trapped underground by a priest.
Close by is the Reykjanes lighthouse, Iceland’s very first lighthouse, built-in 1878 but destroyed by an earthquake eight years later and then rebuilt entirely in 1929. Right by the tower are Valahnúkar and Valahnúkamöl which are unique cliffs and rocks made from some of the oldest lava on the peninsula.
Next up is a genuinely world-famous bridge—the bridge between Europe and America. The earth’s tectonic plates, namely the European and the North American plates, meet there and form the Mid-Atlantic Ridge.
Sandvík, a beautiful beach with almost entirely black sands, is our next stop. This beach was one of the main filming sites for Clint Eastwood’s Flags of our fathers.
The one and only Blue Lagoon will be our final destination of the private day tour, where you will be able to bathe and relax to the fullest. The admission to the Blue Lagoon is included in the tour price. Your private driver will wait after you and return you to your accommodation place.
