Don't miss the perfect evening out in Reykjavik. The Reykjavík Beer Tour is a great choice for those seeking a lively night out, new friends, and some local culture.

You'll visit three excellent bars and sample ten microbrew beers, which is ample to give you a nice warm buzz before you start dancing in Reykjavik. You don't have to be a huge beer lover to enjoy our tour as your expert guides will experiment with different styles to cater to diverse tastes.

Some of the beers you will try on the tour are not to be found anywhere else in Iceland, and can only be experienced in one of the special bars you will visit, such as one made with Skyr, an Icelandic yoghurt.

You will also sample Brennivín (if you are up for it), the unique Icelandic spirit that's sometimes called Black Death when it's exported, for its strong taste.

Your expert guide will introduce you to the interesting and funny history of beer and alcohol Iceland, in particular, the prohibition of beer that started in 1915 and was only lifted in 1989. They will also tell you all about the microbrewery revolution that started in 2006 in Iceland, how the country now has over 30 microbreweries operating.

Your group's meetup place is by Ingólfstorg Square downtown, and it's a very short walk to your first bar, but please keep in mind you are in Iceland so dress in layers. In your first bar, you'll start with a glass of the most seasonal beer available before you head to the second to sample five different flavours based on what's available at that moment; no beer tour is the same.

Finally, you'll head out to our final bar where you get the final three to four samples, depending on if you want to try the Brennivín or not.

Don't miss this exciting introduction to Icelandic nightlife. Check availability by choosing a date.

Our guide was Valur for this tour. We left very punctually from the meeting spot and it was a quick couple minutes before we were at the first spot. Along the way Valur did introductions between everyone, asking about preferences for types of beer. The group we were with were employees from a local hotel (Skuggi Hotel, wonderful hotel in Reykjavík, awesome staff) and they were very sociable. At our first stop (Sæta Svínið) we had a local seasonal beer and learned about the history of alcohol in Iceland and learned about about the people in our group. We learned a little more about the building itself and the earlier days of Reykjavík. The second place we stopped at was Skúli where we received a healthy flight of 5 beers - it was noteworthy that they were larger than samplers in the USA, and it seemed like an effort was made to include the beer types we talked about being a favorite earlier. After some talks we went to the final location, by which point I was already impaired enough to not remember it's name (others had passed their glasses down to us to finish their flights) but it was another hefty (moreso than in Skuli!) 4-beer flight! More talking among the group, what with social lubricant having been applied, cheer, and finally it was time to leave! A wonderful experience! Consider the amount of alcohol and time for the tour. 10 samples (the first was a full pint) over 2 hours - I don't have a tolerance to alcohol anymore so I was 3 sheets to the wind by the end of the tour. Our departure time was 5pm so it was 7pm and time for dinner - might consider having dinner planned ahead of time or something ready for you. Overall, an excellent time, good information, and the price for the tour is an exceptional value - beer in Iceland is expensive, so this tour is well-worth it!
