See the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, often called "Iceland in a nutshell," on this full-day small-group tour from Reykjavik, with mountains, black sand beaches, fishing villages, seals, and rock formations.
You're picked up in Reykjavik in the morning. You travel in a vehicle with Wi-Fi, with a certified driver-guide who shares stories along the way, along with samples of Icelandic music.
Your first stop is Mount Kirkjufell on the north side of the peninsula. The arrow-shaped mountain rises 1,519 feet (463 meters) from the sea above a fishing village and is popular with photographers. Waterfalls, including Kirkjufellsfoss Waterfall, surround the mountain.
Next, you pass through the town of Olafsvik and stop at Ingjaldsholskirkja Church, Iceland's oldest concrete church, built in 1903. Its bright red roof and sea views make it easy to spot, and it's used in Chinese eyesight tests.
At Djupalonssandur Beach, a black pebble beach in Snaefellsjokull National Park, your guide tells you stories about local shipwrecks. You can also try lifting the old stones that fishermen once lifted to test their strength.
The tour continues to the village of Arnarstapi, where you see Midgja, a natural stone bridge on the coast.
Just east of Arnarstapi, you stop at Budakirkja Church, a 19th-century church, and then look for seals at Ytri Tunga Beach.
On the way back to Reykjavik, you cross lava fields, some with basalt columns.
Your last stop is the town of Borgarnes, where you can buy lunch, such as an Icelandic hot dog, before returning to Reykjavik.
