Description
Immerse yourself in the breathtaking underwater world of Silfra fissure on this 5.5-hour snorkeling adventure with a transfer from Reykjavik. Adventurers keen on exploring crystal-clear waters between two continents along the Golden Circle of Iceland should book this experience now.
The tour begins in Reykjavik, where a comfortable and well-equipped vehicle will pick you up from your accommodation or a designated bus stop. Having a roundtrip transport will make your trip more convenient, so you can focus on the adventure ahead.
As you journey toward Silfra, located at the Thingvellir National Park, stunning scenery of valleys, lava fields, and mountains will welcome you. You may also ask your driver-guide some questions about the views you see.
At Silfra, you'll meet your licensed and experienced guide, who will ensure you're fully prepared and assist you throughout the tour. Your safety, comfort, and enjoyment are their top priorities.
All the necessary snorkeling equipment will be provided, including a dry suit, thermal undersuit, and snorkel to keep you comfortable in the near-freezing glacial water. All you need to bring is a sense of adventure and a warm base layer to wear under your dry suit.
Silfra fissure is a marvel of nature. Formed by the tectonic drift between the North American and Eurasian plates, it offers a one-of-a-kind experience: snorkeling between two continents.
With its crystal-clear waters, boasting visibility of up to 328 feet (100 meters), Silfra is like stepping into an underwater realm of unmatched beauty.
The site is divided into four main sections. Each section reveals a new facet of this natural wonder.
The Big Crack is a narrow channel where the continental plates start to drift apart. This is where divers and snorkelers begin to enter. Silfra Hall, on the other hand, offers panoramic views of underwater rock formations.
Silfra Cathedral, the fissure's deepest and most expansive section, comes next. The last section is called the Silfra Lagoon, a shallow but wider part of the crack where you can relax and enjoy the surrounding views.
The glacial water, filtered for decades through volcanic rock, is not only astonishingly clear but can be safe to drink. As you glide through the fissure, you'll witness surreal shades of blue, intricate rock formations, and the silent majesty of an untouched underwater world.
After your snorkeling adventure, you'll have time to reflect on the experience as your guide drives you back to Reykjavik. This tour is perfect for anyone seeking an intimate connection with Iceland's extraordinary landscapes.
