Description

Experience the rare opportunity of floating between two continents on a 5-hour guided Silfra snorkeling tour with pickup from Reykjavik. This water activity in Iceland is ideal for travelers who want to glide through crystal-clear glacial water along the Golden Circle sightseeing route.

This small-group tour is ideal for confident swimmers seeking a well-organized Silfra experience. With entrance fee, transportation, and full dry suit gear included, you can focus on the experience while staying warm, comfortable, and secure.

Your Iceland snorkeling tour begins with a convenient pick-up from your Reykjavik accommodation. You’ll travel in comfortable, heated, carbon-neutral transportation, designed to reduce environmental impact.

During the drive, travel through part of Iceland’s famous Golden Circle sightseeing route. You’ll pass rolling lava fields and open Icelandic terrain before arriving at Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO-listed rift valley home to the Silfra Fissure.

Silfra is considered one of the world’s top snorkeling and diving locations thanks to its extraordinary water clarity. Each year, the rift widens about 0.8 inches (2 centimeters), and glacial meltwater that has flowed through volcanic rock for centuries emerges as some of the purest water on Earth.

Once at the fissure, your PADI-certified guide will lead your group through its four main sections: Silfra Big Crack, Silfra Hall, Silfra Cathedral, and Silfra Lagoon. You’ll receive personal attention in a small group to support a safe snorkeling experience in Iceland.

Before entering the water, you’ll be fitted with a high-quality dry suit, along with a hood, gloves, snorkel mask, and fins. The dry suit provides full insulation and dryness in water temperatures of 36 F to 39 F (2 C to 4 C).

A brief safety briefing covers basic snorkeling techniques and water safety to support confidence and comfort underwater.

For about 30 to 40 minutes, you’ll snorkel between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. Gaze at the incredible underwater landscape, with deep canyons, colorful rock formations, and vivid blue water offering up to 330 feet (100 meters) of visibility.

After snorkeling, warm up with hot chocolate and freshly baked cookies. The tour includes the entrance fee to Silfra, so you can enjoy a hassle-free adventure without renting equipment or worrying about extra costs.

The minimum age for this Silfra diving tour is 12 years old, and you must fit the size limits for the dry suit to be able to swim. The recommended height is between 4’11”–6’7” (150–200 centimeters), and the weight is 99–265 pounds (45–120 kilograms) to ensure the best fit and safety.

Everyone must read and sign the Snorkeling Silfra medical statement and liability release form to ensure safety. Bring thermal base layers, warm socks, and weather-appropriate clothing for comfort before and after the snorkel.

Experience the thrill of snorkeling in one of the clearest waters on Earth on this small-group Silfra snorkeling tour from Reykjavik. Check availability now by choosing a date.

Good to know

To get the most out of your snorkeling experience, guests should be physically fit, comfortable in the water, and able to swim confidently. If you wear glasses, consider contact lenses, as masks cannot be worn over glasses.

All participants must fit within the dry suit size range: 4’11”–6’7” (150–200 cm) in height and 99–265 lbs (45–120 kg) in weight. Guests must also fit within our dry suit size chart to ensure comfort and safety during the snorkel. Be ready to wear a snug dry suit, which can feel constricting at first.

Participants must be at least 12 years old and not pregnant. The tour is conducted entirely in English, so it’s important that guests can understand instructions and communicate with the guide. You can have a translator during the tour if needed.

Silfra’s water is extremely cold, around 36 F to 39  F (2 C to 4  C). Wearing thermal base layers under the dry suit is essential to stay warm. We strongly recommend arriving at Silfra already dressed in thermal layers, as the two small toilets on-site are not suitable for changing and can cause long lines.

Before booking, please carefully review the Medical Statement. All participants must read, sign, and follow the Silfra Snorkeling Medical Statement and sign the liability release form before entering the water.

Eating well before the tour is important to maintain energy while snorkeling, as there are no food or drink options available directly at Silfra. You can also bring a towel, though you’ll only get wet on your head and hands.
