Join this wetsuit snorkelling tour in Silfra fissure at the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Thingvellir National Park. It's an out of this world adventure inside a hidden natural wonder, where the 100 m (almost 330 ft) underwater visibility and bright colours make for an unbelievable afternoon.

The pristine water in Silfra is one of the purest and clearest streams you’ll find on the planet, which is why it is named Silfra (silver)! When snorkelling in Silfra, you are travelling between two continents, ending the tour in a lagoon often called "the real Blue Lagoon" because of the bright blue colour of the water.

Silfra is one of the most highly regarded diving locations on earth for all these reasons and more. Located on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, it is one of the largest fissures on Lake Þingvallavatn, a result of the endless tension of the earth as pressure builds and earthquakes tear the landscape, widening into fissures and underwater caves.

Snorkelling in Silfra rift where you are guided into this magnificent scenery is a treat for all nature lovers and adventure seeking individuals and groups.

Because it is a wetsuit tour, you'll have more freedom of movement and will even be able to free dive by holding your breath. The wetsuits you will use are 6 mm in thickness and isolate the body well from the cold water.

The water temperature is between 2–4 °C (36–39 °F). However, when wearing a wetsuit, water always gets underneath the suit, which slowly warms up. You'll need to bring a bathing suit to wear underneath the wetsuit.

In short, you'll be able to dive deeper, but you'll be exposed to colder temperatures. If you think the water might be too cold for you, try Adventure Viking's drysuit tour, which provides the same beautiful scenery while keeping you much warmer.

So don't miss your chance to see the beautiful underwater world of Silfra fissure! Check availability by choosing a date.

Everything was perfect this day. The weather, the group, the instructors. I felt right a home with this group. The cold is exaggerated, its not cold in a wetsuit, so just choose it. This was one of the most beautiful experienses i have ever had, and I will have to come back to this amazing country again, and then dive the first chance i get.

If you are going to Iceland and are looking for the experience of a lifetime, this is it. If you're up for the full experience go for a wet suit over a dry suit. Our guide, Heimer, was outstanding, friendly and knowledgable. I didn't want to get out of the water despite the fact I was freezing.

This is an experience of a lifetime! We went mid February and did the wet suit. We were the only 2 people we saw doing the wet suit and I was very nervous about it being too cold. Once you get in and move around, it really isn't bad. Your lips are exposed and it gets hard to move them to talk but everything else was fine during the swim. The wet suits were actually pretty buoyant so it took some effort to dive down, but you get the hang of it (never been diving before, only snorkeling so being free to go under was a new experience for us). We bought a go pro specifically for this excursion and were so glad we did because the views are incredible!! The coldest part was getting out at the end. It wasn't a windy day, so that was lucky. It was very very cold getting out because all of the warm water that has been between your skin and the wet suit rushing out. They provide a large jacket type thing for the end that you wear to make the short walk back to the bus. It was pretty difficult changing afterwards because your fingers and toes get so cold, but it is WELL WORTH 15 minutes of being freezing cold. Let me repeat, IT WAS SO WORTH IT!!!!!! Even during the shivering, we were so glad we did it. The tour guides were awesome too! So friendly and helpful. They made the experience even greater. Ours was a girl whose name began P which I can't remember (sorry!) so thank you for making our tour AWESOME!

This was a once in a lifetime chance to see something you can't see anywhere in the world so it's a must do in our opinion. We opted for the wetsuites even in Dec which was -3C and putting on the suits was viking style but you will live. We were cold until we were in the water and we were very comfortable then the views were nothing less than awesome. We did try to dive a bit which was the reason we didn't opt for the dry suit but was still difficult as the wet suits were so thick they were pretty buoyant as well but with allot of effort we didn't get a bit deeper. The depth of the fissure was more than expected the beauty of geological rocks of different types were amazing!! Had a great time with our guide Ivan he was very helpfull getting our gear on, then very informative about the silfra fissure and well as funny...he was just super cool (no pun on words). When we were done I will let you know it was a cold walk back and removing the suit was also viking style outside that was super cold but it was so worth it for sure!!!

This was an incredibly once in a lifetime experience. Water was gorgeous and crystal clear. I wore a wetsuit and my fiance had worn the dry suit. I would suggest wearing the drysuit. In the wetsuit in the beginning of May when it was snowing the water was incredibly cold. It almost took away from the amazing experience because I was so cold very quickly. I tried swimming down but it was more difficult than I thought. My fiance was very comfortable in the dry suit and was still able to experience everything and stayed a bit warmer. Would really recommend this though as there is only one place to see anything like this!

Amazing experience! Our tour guides were the best! We were late(ish) and they were really accommodating. Never rushed us when putting on our wetsuits (which are kind of hard to put on). The snorkeling experience is unique! Water was so clear and blue. While the wetsuit keeps your body warm, your hands (even with gloves on) and face will get REALLY cold. I couldn’t feel my lips after a few minutes. But it is so worth it! TIP! If you don’t have experience diving get the drysuit. We got the wetsuit because of the flexibility to go down and swim but this is very hard to do. I was only able to go down one time and the rest was just floating same as the people who got the drysuit (but they stayed warmer). There was one guy with diving experience and he was able to go down with his drysuit. So bottom line, get the drysuit :)

Fantastic underwater experience, highlight of Icelandic tour for sure! Even in cold weather (+5C) wasn't too cold. Highly recommend taking a wetsuit instead of dry suit - you'll only be cold towards the end of 40 min swim and only in your hands / feet. Our Adventure Vikings guide Gretzky was very nice, thoughtful, helpful and a cool guy.

We had a great time snorkeling in Þingvellir! Our guides, Heimir and Anna-Sara, were very personable, professional, and approachable. The other guests on our tour were all using drysuits, and we were the only ones in wetsuits, so the guides were very mindful of keeping us warm and comfortable. It was great! And the water was so clear and delicious, with wonderful views both above and below the surface. Definitely very cold, but we strongly recommend the experience!
