See the main sights of Iceland's South Coast and explore the Katla Ice Cave on this small-group day tour from Reykjavik, with a super jeep ride to the cave included.
You're picked up in Reykjavik and travel east by minibus along the South Coast with your English-speaking guide.
The first stop is Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, which drops 197 feet (60 meters). A path leads into the cavern behind the falls, so you can walk all the way behind the cascade, weather permitting. You may get soaked by the spray.
Next, you visit Skogafoss Waterfall, a 197-foot (60-meter) waterfall fed by Eyjafjallajokull and Myrdalsjokull Glaciers. You can see it from its base or climb a staircase to view it from above and follow a path along the Skoga River. You then stop for lunch.
The tour continues to Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, known for its hexagonal basalt columns, strong Atlantic waves, and views of the Dyrholaey cliffs, where puffins and other seabirds nest in summer.
In Vik Village, you switch to a super jeep for an off-road ride across the volcanic landscape to the Katla Ice Cave. The cave is in Kotlujokull Glacier, an outlet glacier of Myrdalsjokull Glacier, which sits on top of Katla Volcano. Certified guides provide all the safety equipment you need and lead the group inside, where you see blue ice blended with layers of black volcanic ash. The ice cave part of the day takes about 3 hours.
You arrive back in Reykjavik at around 8:00 p.m.
